Choosing a cooler under 150mm

raymo39

Hey!

As the title says, I'm putting a build together where the maximum cooler height in the case is 150mm. At the moment I'm tossing up between two Noctuas the NH-L12 and the NH-U9B (leaning towards this one), since both seem to easily outperform the hyper d92 from coolermaster. Just wanted to check around and see if anyone else has experience with smaller height coolers, or any other notable suggestions. Thanks!

Cryorig H7 is a decent budget option but noctua is generally the best in the business performance wise for air coolers (they also charge a lot though), I'm also unfamiliar with the hyper d92 to give decent comparisons to anything

NZXT Respire t20 baby! It's been rock solid for more than three years cooling my 3570k oc 4.2 ghz! Temps stay well below 150f even on high load!

My native language is C++

The best cooler under 150mm is certainly the NH-C14S.

What about BeQuiet! Topflow?

i have one in my hadron air, tight fit. It depends on how much clearance you have between the top fan and the side panel

Silverstone FT-05: 8 Broadwell Xeon (6900k soon), Asus X99 A, Asus GTX 1070, 1tb Samsung 850 pro, NH-D15

  • 3 weeks later...

I'm using a Noctua NH-U9S, its 125mm tall so plenty of clearance in the Hadron Air.

Running a 6700k at stock speeds for now and I'm seeing temps of about 28-32 idle and about 70 under full load.

I originally had an NH-L9x65 which idled fine (low to mid 30's) but under load hit mid to upper 80's, That seemed a bit too hot, and why I swapped.

Hadron Air: i7 6700k (@stock), Zotac GTX1070, ASUS Z170I, Noctua NH-U6S, 32GB Kingston RAM, Samsung 256MB 850PRO M.2, 3TB WD Green.

Cryorig H7. 145mm tall, 120mm fan and heatsink, quiet, cheap, beats a 212, let alone a D92 dual-fan money pit. By far and away the best value at the sub-150mm level.

Aerocool DS are the best fans you've never tried.
