Any difference with just EQ in a computer software vs a bass boost from an amp to a headphone?

I don't ever see desktop amps with bass boost therefore this question haha

“It would seem that Our Lord finds our desires not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.”

Depends on how good audio is on the motherboard. These days even cheap motherboards can do 300-600 impedance however they may not get loud enough. AMP may usually help but not for every headphones.

High impedance doesn't make a headphone hard to drive (hard to get loud).

It's more closely related to sensitivity.

OT: Amps will use hardware to "bass boost" whereas the motherboards on board is more likely be through software.

You'll probably find better results from an amp, but as @Revanssi said, results will vary from board to board and amp to amp

That's not how this works. No.

E10k is the only one I know of with a bass boost built in.

Generally a hardware bass boost won't raise distortion as much as a software one, but some headphones EQ gracefully while others fall to pieces, so of course, mileage may vary.
