Someone Got Their GTX 1060 Early

Someone claims to have received their Gainward Gale GTX 1060 early and posted some Firestrike and Timespy resluts, along with a GPU-Z screenshot of stock and overclocked specs. The "Gale" is clocked higher out of the box than reference. They also claim to have paid 1900 Yuan ($285 USD) for their 1060, while a reference 8GB 480 would have cost 1999 Yuan.

 

The CPU they are using is an i5 6500, with a 3.2Ghz base clock. It would have been preferable to see the tests done with an overclocked K series i5 or i7, but beggars can't be choosers. The one thing that stands out is the Driver version. Driver 368.81 has been available for a day or two, yet they are using 368.56 here. Old drivers are not uncommon it seems with this years GPU leaks.

I've looked up RX 480 3DMark Firestrike and Timespy results using the same cpu for comparison.

 

The best 480 graphic score for Firestrike Ultra using an i5 6500 is 3095 http://www.3dmark.com/fs/9049476

The best 480 graphic score for Firestrike Extreme using an i5 6500 is 6281 http://www.3dmark.com/fs/9179510

The best 480 graphic score for Firestrike Timespy using an i5 4670 is 3901 http://www.3dmark.com/spy/57377

 

(I couldn't find a 480 Timespy score that used an i5 6500, so I found the best score using the closet equivalent)

I have no plans to buy one myself, but leaks help inform those beforehand what to expect. the 1060 will probably sell out within hours, so waiting around for official benchmarks on launch day would be too late. Of course, its only 3Dmark but it gives an idea.

Perhaps. I'm not one to buy a product early, i'd rather wait for whatever issues pop up on release to be resolved than have to suffer them myself

yeah, I added comparisons using the same CPU just to get a better idea. but even still thats pretty good compared to a reviewer thats using a high end CPU.

I guess it depends where you live. apparently they got this 1060 for 1900 in their currency, while a 480 is almost 2000.

I used only the GPU portion of Guru3D's score, and I used the GPU portion for the 1060 as well. That way you don't have to worry about which CPU was used.

I gotcha, there is a bit of a boost to gpu score by using a faster cpu though. not massive mind you.

Well considering the GTX 1060 is supposed to have the performance of a GTX 980, and that the GTX 970 is 16% slower, that makes sense.

Also this is without an actual driver for the 1060 meaning it might be faster than this.

You used the first review scores of guru3d the 480 improved with the latest 2 drivers.

And the MSRP of the 480 is $240, and it is already more than that (the cheapest 480 I can find in stock is $270). You can't compare MSRP of a 480 to what you "think" is going to be the price of a 1060.

You live in the US right? Because that would be why its the MSRP (after taxes in other countries+the exchange rate, its not at the MSRP anywhere else)
