Couch gaming

Seeing how couch gaming is becoming more common place now a days. I was wondering how everyone sets themselves up for couch gaming. 

For the longest time I used a Logitech MK710 with the KB on my lap and the Mouse on the arm rest. It wasn't the ideal solution, but it worked. Can't do this anymore seeing how I replaced everything with wired KB/M my desktop is now on the complete other side of the room, so hard wiring is a pain. 

 

How do you guys have yourselves set up for couch gaming?

Xbox 360 controller. I also don't really like couch gaming as my eye sight is bad so I have to squint to read things. I will just stick my chair

I only found text scaling to be an issue in older games, at least with my game library. I just picked up a steam controller and still having a bit of trouble getting adjusted to it. The Vive was awesome for the short amount of time that I had it. Wish it had more games.

Unfortunately, most of my adventure games find it okay to place the contents of "War and Peace" as a single block of text (hyperbole). But yes, most games today have good scaling and adjustable where necessary. If only MMO's could follow suit.

 

Favorite game to play from the couch though? Office 365 Excel! Everyone is SO INTERESTED they feel inclined to walk towards the opposite direction.

I primarily only play controller-centric games in my recliner (no room for a couch right now). So XBOX One controller is the way I go most of the time. I did recently have an older keyboard/mouse game that didn't play nice with my main rig but worked fine on the HTPC. I used my Logitech K400 and M705. Wasn't super comfortable though.

I have been using either a hdmi lead to my tv and an xbox controller for racing games on the couch. And just using laptop on a coolpad on my knee for other genres using the corner of the laptop for my mouse (razer orochi is great for this).

 

Just ordered a Nvidia shield tv during prime day sale, hopefully going to be a fantastic solution for couch gaming, im still offshore for 2 more weeks before I can get home to use it :(

take a wireless keyboard & a wireless mouse.  bring a small mousepad if your couch made of leather. then connect your computer to your tv/display. i use my laptop and connect to hdmi display and open fl studio projects and play some music. and the audio is much better with my tv. and i also play flight simulator x(2006 game graphics eh?), which can be controlled with mouse "mouse yoke mode" and flight experience (with aircraft : all nippon 777) is much better than a small 13" 1366X768 laptop screen.

I got myself steam link, and Iv been loving couch gaming. Need to invest in a cheap wireless mous and keyboard. Using a coffee table isn't too comfortable!!

I have a dedicated combination HTPC and Steam Box powered by Kodi and Steam hooked up to my TV.  It's made out of almost entirely 'hand me down' parts from my workstation.  Since it's running Windows 10 Pro however, sometimes a 360 pad isn't all you need, so I have a Logitech K400 keyboard for when it needs servicing or someone to hit CTRL+ALT+DEL.IMG_9630.jpg

I use a set of Xbox 360 controllers with custom colored shells to get that friendlier 'Console' feel.  Had plenty of fun nights of multiplayer gaming with friends on the couch with this machine.  I also have a similar machine in the bedroom with an i5 4590 and Radeon HD 6850.  ...And this one has a great case. :3

I ran a 35' cable from my tv to my desktop. Its not an ideal solution because windows goes haywire with my monitor configuration. I use it with a 360 controller or the steam controller. I picked up a steam link and thrrew it in the bedroom. Best decision ever lol. Let me know how the shield holds up. Was considering it for the longest time.

I used to do this when my desktop was closer to my tv. It wasnt the most comfortable set up but it worked.

The steam link + controller was the best thing ever for the bedroom. Makes playing games easier than using in home streaming (laptops were too far away to get good signal strenth gtom router) and it even allows me to shut down my desktop (dont think this is an option with steam in home streaming on the comp)

I use a set of Xbox 360 controllers with custom colored shells to get that friendlier 'Console' feel.  Had plenty of fun nights of multiplayer gaming with friends on the couch with this machine.  I also have a similar machine in the bedroom with an i5 4590 and Radeon HD 6850.  ...And this one has a great case. :3

How did you paint the controllers. They look awesome! The pink rig looks awesome too. Something that bright would stand out like a sore thumb in my apt though.

I was able to get them in the colors I wanted and I just disassembled the boring black and white controllers I had and reassembled them with new colors.  The kits come with all new thumb sticks, face buttons and home button but they are honestly kinda crappy.  I only used the top, bottom, battery cover and trigger/bumper assemblies, while keeping the rest stock.

I've been trying out a Logitech bluetooth keyboard and my normal CM Storm mouse right on the couch. Some games I use a Playstation 4 controller (using DS4Windows). I do all of my gaming from my couch since my apartment is a bit small and use my TV for gaming and multi-media content. I don't really play competitive multiplayer games, so I don't need a "gaming monitor."

On the subject of xbox360 controllers... I love "bullet buttons." Not because they are bullets, but because they have a raised and better defined edge.

I personally use my Computer as a server for GameStreaming to my Nvidia Shield TV (with Moonlight). For me this works kind of well, I am getting 60 fps @ 1080p with a very small input lag. I have to say, that I have a solid home Network and only the switch between my PC and Shield Device. Since the new GForce Experience beta I don't have problems with the Login anymore and all works fine. The benefits of gamestreaming for me are the silence and convenience.

It only came out in mid 2015 lol. They just released a big update in June that allows them to function as a Plex media centre transcoder, for £100 its a no brainer if your going to use it as a multifunctional box.

Or.... use a hdmi cable pc to tv and save $$$? especially if you already have a smart tv.

Eh.

A. Dont have a smart TV. Needed a tv box anyway

B. They are ultra efficient at plex transcoding, will allow me to downgrade my nas to a cheaper, simpler SoC unit.

C. Nvidia Grid is shit, gamestream on the other hand is awesome if you have a Nvidia gpu, allows you to stream all of your pc games to your tv without fannying about with windows monitor configuations and hdmi leads

D. Can push android TV at 4k, I plan on picking up a 4k tv when I get a good deal

E. Built in chromecast.
