MSI Godlike Gaming mobo, already RMAd it and it worked for technical support and was confirmed to boot into windows multiple times.

Its displaying codes 04 and 55 on the LEDs while stuck booting.

Already tried:

Many CMOS resets

1 GPU at a time (with 3 GPUs tested now)

Each one of 4 ram sticks at a time

2 CPUs (5820k originally, thought this was the problem due to testing everything else and already sent it back, and new 6850k. I'll just have to sell the 5820k if it comes back as non faulty now).

2 PSUs (recently purchased top of the line EVGA T2 1000w and old XFX 850w black edition).

Tried with all data drives unplugged.

I'm hoping either someone here or MSI support can help me fix this. The only one possibility that I still havnt counted for is that all 4 sticks are dead, error 55 is actually a memory error, and 04 is something with the South bridge, not sure what that specifically means what the problem is though.

I just looked at the manual for it and 55 is Early Memory Initialization, basically checking to see the RAM is there and operating. 04 is Initializing the South Bridge. They aren't actual errors so much as they are status indicators. I had built a system today with a Asus X99 Deluxe II that wouldn't boot until I flashed the BIOS because it was having issues with the RAM. Unfortunately MSI doesn't have a way to flash the BIOS without a CPU or RAM.

*snip*

Seems it's RAM related, unsupported RAM is quite rare nowadays, I would still try to get my hands on another RAM kit (not clear what RAM kit you have now)

Have you tried every single ram in every single slot?

I tried each ram stick in the right most slot (Dimm 5 slot in the manual).

New ram is the only thing I hadn't tried, but first maybe I can get my current ram sticks tested.

That's what I said, you should try another RAM kit, since it's a memory error and it's the only thing you haven't tested yet.

Right then, I decided to order a mini ITX rig with the cheapest parts including DDR4 to diagnose with, and also because my family's laptop is ancient and I'd definitely like a backup PC now.

Well, new ram didnt fix it either.

Confirmed that the new ram, backup PSU, and monitor & power cables are not the problem because they are powering my new H170 backup PC at the moment.

I have no idea whats wrong, MSI and Scan both want me to check for bent pins next, but pins aren just going to bend if a PC stops booting overnight, and scan already tested it and it worked for them.

so, now do you want to breadboard?

Well its still under warranty ... MSI have asked me to get info from when Scan tested the board - bios version and hardware used, and if they tried with a Broadwell-E.

a friend of mine had some problems with a board.... not getting a cpu to run.... or any cpu to run right.... or boot... or boot right.

the reason I said breadboard is to isolate a grounding problem. you should take the time to do it.

Oh I didnt even get what you meant by breadboarding. I have mostly done that, just not tried it outside the case. I unplugged all drives and tried with just the CPU, MB and GPU connected but still nothing. And I dont actually have a PC speaker.

RAM Speeds/timings?

On closer inspection, the board should be fine with just about any speed.

Most of their BIOS updates claim improved memory compatibility. Try the latest, from last month.

Can't update the bios if the PC doesn't boot.

well that's just it.......... the case............ get everything OUT of the case......... away from the case. isolate it from the case.

Done because Scan also asked me to:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IioXzZLEoJw

At the end of the video I have a recording of the same ram used working in my new backup rig, and the X99 board has already been tested using the PSU thats powering that system.

Oh, and the GPU fans start and stop spinning because they dont power on until the GPU reaches 60 degrees, as per the labels I removed in this video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n2fLvyTPThQ

'Fans will stop spinning on low loads'

I sent another email to Scan to tell them that too.

Yeah something isn't right, you changed/tried everything apart from the motherboard at this point ... Seems like the motherboard is the problem but they don't want to exchange it for some reason!

can you physically disconnect the wifi from the board itself? ( or unplug it in some way )?

I have to ask... did they send the same board back?

No the wifi is built in.

And I just tried checking the board - theres no serial number stickers, so I cant even tell if its the same board. They have the correfct RMA number stuck all over the box itself.

But the problem im having is still the same as it was before, so Im sure its the same board.

Well they said they would issue another RMA but they wanted the breadboard results first. I also requested that if it works when they test it then to record it working.
