Best bang for the buck air cooler that will fit in an S340?

Manchu

I'm currently on a Dell XPS 8500 prebuilt with a CS750M and GTX 970 that I put in there last summer. However I'm going to completely rebuild this winter if I can. I've recently decided to purchase the case (S340) that I'm going to use in the rebuild early and swap my current hardware in there for better aesthetics and airflow. This also puts me in the market for a new CPU cooler, as the stock one lets the CPU get quite toasty under load. However I'm probably only going to use this cooler for like 6 months so I'd like to refrain from spending a lot of money. I'd go ahead and grab myself a 212 Evo, however the Evo is 160mm high and the max for this case is 161mm, so I'd rather not chance it. But anyways these are the ones I've found: Be Quiet Pure Rock, CryoRig M9i, and the DeepCool GAMMAXX 300. IDK if anyone has experience with any of those coolers or that case but input would be hugely appreciated!

Thanks,

-Manchu

Huh! Is this rig yours? The only reason I've been avoiding the 212 Evo is the fact that it had issues in the Source 210 and the 210 only has 1mm less cooler clearance.

Definitely a 212 Evo

Would the top of the heat pipes clear the side window?

hyper212.jpg Yep

Thanks man, the only reason that I'm skeptical is that in a Source 210 build I did (only has 1mm less cooler clearance) with the 212 Evo it left a scratch on the window because one heat pipe stuck out higher than the others.

What are your load temps? I find that Dell's cooling solutions usually keep decent temps unless they're caked with dust.

Well, the PC is going on 4 years old with a stock cooler. Playing GTA V at 1080p with some high and some ultra settings it nears 80C and sometimes achieves it. Rendering videos with Vegas 13 it usually hits around 75C. I've also had a reply about the same topic on /r/buildapc saying that the be quiet! Pure Rock is basically a quieter 212 Evo, do you have any input on that?

Yeah, the Pure Rock is quieter.

Those temps are fine though. You're fine up to ~85c at load.

Alright that's nice to know. I am still not sure which I'm going to buy... I'm kinda leaning towards the Pure Rock as it's a bit shorter and just as efficient, however it's twice the price.

It's not worth twice the price. I'd suggest sticking with your current cooler unless you find it too noisy.

The Scythe Fuma, its better than the D15 so it murders anything in its price range ($55) and its only 149MM tall.

Good one, but it's $20 more than the 212 Evo and literally the same size (159mm) so logically it doesn't make sense.

20$ more???? where are you looking at pricing? should only be a 5$ difference.( maybe 10$ at certain times of the year.) and for the 5$ i i think its worth it as it runs 3-5 degree cooler than the 212 evo under load.

Yeah, I looked at the prices wrong, it's only $5 more right now and they're both the same price when not on sale.
