The only problem I had when installing was moving the screws that has the springs into the right position, other than that it was smooth as butter. And that was probably my fault.

@Kayn how was it your fault?

Because I didn't read the manual and spent more time on it than I should have.

The mounting mechanism and tower, they're exactly the same

What do you mean by wrong spot? And no, I've installed about 4 of these coolers and I have never dug into a motherboard with anything.

Same here, I must have put half a dozen of those on and that's never happened

You're going to have to take pictures or something because I'm having a hard time thinking of what you might be doing wrong. Make sure the cross piece that holds the cooler down is set in the right position. If that's still not working, start watching some installation guides. Here's one to start with:

Seriously, I believe I've told you this before, but you DON'T have to tag people in every post. It adds unnecessary notifications, and I wake up to about 60-70 every day. Don't need more.

What do you mean in the right position? @DaftBehemoth

Read your manual and watch the videos. We're here to help, but not to hold your hand. I don't mean to be a jerk, but you need to put some effort into this.

Part of me wants to get an EVO to try out since I have a tiny heatsink with x2 92mm fans. At the same time, the lazy part of me is hopeful that Noctua uses the same mounting mechanism for everything so I wouldn't have to do much when installing a beefier cooling solution. :P

Dude I had this cooler and I also noticed this on my rig, I took the cooler off and that silvery looking stuff is nothing but some weird gel on the bottom of those cooler stand offs, take off the cooler and double check if you don't believe me, I also thought it had dug into the mobo but as soon as I took the cooler off I realized it was nothing but some weird residue and there was no mark on the mobo at all. Just be gentle tightening those down and don't over tighten them
