Hey man while i appreciate the input id like to say two things.

1) I am perfectly happy playing non shooters at high fps and medium settings and playing rpgs and the like at high or ultra with 45fps.

2) It isnt a matter of saving. i have more than enough money to buy two gtx 1080s today if i wanted to. i work 30+ hours a week making well over minimum wage. its not about lack of money. its about how much i am willing or want to spend on the product.

I don't spend on GPUs.  I get what I need.  If I was to drop $700 on a GPU I would end up pissed off because I don't need it and would feel I did not get my money's worth.

Contrary to the what Frenchman with a $600+ GTX 980Ti says, the RX 480 is not a weak card at 2560x1080.  ROTTR is the worse case scenario for the RX 480, IDK why... it just is.  The 480 beats the Fury in Fallout 4.  It all depends on the game.

The GTX 980Ti is not 2.5x the performance of a RX 480, but you sure pay that extra in dollars.  If the RX 480 is weak, the GTX 980Ti is utter crap.  ;)

The problem with the RX 480 is the implementation of the power delivery and the cooling of the reference card.  Wait for better versions.  The GTX 1060 might be out soon too, so you get to see that card as well if you wait a bit.

Why? They didn't have to with the GTX 760 when the R9 280 was beating its ass. They didn't have to with the GTX 960 when the R9 380 was smashing it.

I'd wait to see how the 1060 is then decide then, if the 1060 is good get it if not the 390 seems better than the 480 but not by so much that it's price won't come down, however I feel like nvidia skipped a generation so the 1060 will likely be better than a 970/390 key word likely.

you'll most likely be waiting almost a year if not more for a gtx 1060 to release.
