So let's say I got a copy of Windows 10 pro, would I be able to use it on more than one pc?

legally, no.  One license per install at a time.

If you buy a copy of Windows, and you use it on 2 different machines (one for yours and one for your spouse) it is illegal and you could be sued in the terms of almost 100 times the cost of the software.

If you buy a copy of Windows right now, and use it on one machine (your machine) that is legal.  It is even legal for your to trash that computer later and then use that same copy of Windows on a new machine.

Please spend as much time writing your question, as you want me to spend responding to it.  Take some time, and explain your issue, please!

The license is bound to a hardware ID for Windows 10, so not exactly.

There are ways around it to get yourself an legit hardware ID activation without a 'Windows 10 Key'.  If you have a legit Windows 7/8/8.1 key you can install and activate then use the media creation tool to do a fresh install which will then register the new hardware ID.  Bit of a faff but saves paying for additional licensing.

If you throw it out, or use it for another project, then yes you can use the same copy of Windows on a new machine.

If you Are Using an OEM Key, the License is Bound to your motherboard, and Can't Be moved. Generally OEM keys are Cheaper.
Standard Retail Keys, Can be Moved from Computer to Computer, However, you Need to Deactivate the Current Computer that the Key was Being Used on, Otherwise, you Can't Move it to the New Computer. (you can Call Microsoft, or do it within Windows I Belive)

However, I have noticed a bit of a Flaw with Windows 8.1 and 10 Activation, When I updated to Windows 10, there were Some Games that Simply Did not work, So I Added a Windows 8.1 Install for Dual Boot. To my Utter Surprise, it started using the Old windows 8.1 Key, that my Computer used for the upgrade, even though I was using it on Windows 10. as far as I can Tell, Both are Legit, but I found it strange nonetheless.

I was Trying to Get the Computer to use the old Built in NON Pro OEM Key instead of my Retail key for Pro, but I guess I downloaded the wrong disk.

Processor: Intel Core i7-5700HQ (Quad Core - Octo Thread) {2.70GHz - 3.40GHz}

Graphics: Nvidia GTX 970m 3GB GDDR5 (MXM Series) + Intel Integrated (Off)

Ram: 2x 1366Mhz 8GB + 2 1366Mhz 4GB

It depends. Legal each key can only be used on 1 pc at a time unless other wise stated. I dont think MS has a multi PC key. I know back in the day during XP they had a 3 pack you could get, I dont think they have done that since. Any way, OEM keys are generally locked to the Computer for life. Now I have heard that MS some times shows mercy and will allow you to transfer an OEM licensee. I have never done it. Retail keys are generally transferable. The only catch is, you can only use them on one PC at a time. For example I have a retail copy of Windows 7. When I built my new rig I just used the hard drive from my old rig witch had windows on it. I reformatted it and reinstall, it activated without any issues.

It may suck, but its the way it has always been. Windows 8 and 10 have been the cheapest Windows to date. I paid a lot for my Windows 7 key. Im so much happier that MS has done better with the price for these new versions.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

So, what happens if you install Windows 10 and use it without the activation? Beside PERSONALIZATION everything works. Sometimes the message saying it is not activated disappears and re-appears the next day. I know it is illegal but it seems to work just fine.I did a lot of searching and I cannot find anything about that, some say it will keep working, some say it will shutdown in three months, Microsoft says nothing about that. Has anyone tried it longer than three months? I had tried with a pre release of Windows 8 and after three months it killed the networking, that was it.  Some say that Windows 10 is different and will not do that. I installed it on an 8 year old laptop that had Vista on it. I replaced the HDD after it failed with an SSD and after three days of updating Vista it it was not working properly. Even Chrome cannot be installed in Vista.  I decided to try a Windows 10 ISO and in 20 minutes all was installed and working fine. But they charge 150$ to activate the damned thing. It is ridiculous. As it is free for Win7 and 8 it should at least be selling for no more than 50$ and even less when you had XP or Vista and want to update.

Dude I paid over $200 for a legit Windows 7 one month after it was released. So $150 is cheap as thats the price for a Pro version. Back in the day you could use Windows 30 days with out activation then it would stop working. Im not sure what Windows 10 does. Using Windows 10 unactivated is not necessarily illegal as you could be testing it out for a trial period which is OK. I just know that some features were disabled as a result of it not being activated.

I just dont under stand why people bitch about Windows 10 pricing, when previous versions of Windows were always more expensive. Plus you can get cheaper OEM keys on Newegg for like $80 if you want to save some cash. Or go to the Reditt Software swap if you dont mind grey market keys. People using XP and Vista probably dont have machines that could run windows 10 well. Thats why they did not offer a free upgrade. Plus XP was already dead by the time Win10 came out.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

I am not bitching about the price and 150$ is for the Home version, the pro is 250$ CDN.

I don't understand that they had a free offer if you had Windows 7 or 8 and nothing if you pass from Vista to 10.

They want you to buy a new machine instead.

I would not buy a 150$ license on an 8 years old machine after spending 120$ to install an SSD in it.

At this rate, might as well go and get a new machine.

But that laptop with the SSD and Windows 10 is more than what the guy wants and needs and he is over 80 years old and cannot afford to spend too much.

Its because they figure that a Vista machine is too old. MS cant guarantee that the hardware in your Vista machine would be compatible with Windows 10. Plus I think Vista's adoption rate was very low too, so they probably didnt see the point in the matter.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.
