Does Skylake Support 4 Channel RAM?

Go to solution Solved by maxtch,

The LGA115x sockets only have enough pins for 2 channels, so you only get so much. If you want to use 4 channels you will need to use LGA2011 family of sockets that have enough pins. So if you want a quad-channel Skylake wait for i7-7800 and Xeon E5-2600v5 series.

So... I currently have a Skylake System that I assembled in April, 6700 on an ASUS H170 Gaming mobo with 2x4 2133 DDR4 RAM. For Premiere and other Adobe CC purposes, I would like to add in another 8GB of RAM. Can I still use the previous RAM, taking advantage of my mobo's 4 RAM slots?

Thanks from a novice PC Builder,

Neil

1) no it does not support 4 channel

2) 4 sticks of ram  =/= 4 channel

3) yes you can add 8 more GB of ram if you have 2 empty slots
