It's only an issue if you have a Walmart motherboard from the 60s or use your mobo as a plate to eat your food. It's safe. One thing you can do is under volt the card which also had a bonus effect of increasing performance in some games. AMD is also going to release a fix.

Wait for the 1060 and aftermarket versions of the 480. If you are ready to snip your dick in half just to get a 480 then either steal it from someone or pray to god you find small store with still stock of it. Also if you mobo aint some fancy oc machine then theres the power issue that can shutdown the pc and MAY cause damage to the mobo

pay extra 20-30 bucks and get a gtx 970..problem solved

Accoring to benchamrks, RX 480 is better than GTX 970, so it would be unwise to pay more for less performance.

Your correct in most games and few games the gtx 970 is better. I guess it depends on if he wants to wait or not for the amd partners to come out with the better cards.

The RX 480 is an newer card than the GTX 970, with more vRAM and better DirectX 12 performance. It will *likely* outperform the GTX 970 across the board once AMD releases more optimized drivers, and even in its current state performs slightly better in many games. At $200, it's a better buy than the 970.

Waiting for the aftermarket cards is a matter of choice. AMD has officially stated that they will be releasing a software fix for the RX 480's PCI-E power draw issue, so buying a reference board is a non-issue regardless of the quality of your motherboard. If you want better overtclocking performance, wait for the aftermarket cards. If you don't care about that, then don't.

I would hold off on buying refference card.

First of all, we all know that there is some problem with PCI power draw. Not sure if that can be fixed via drivers, but lets give them a chance.

But that's not the only reason to wait. Temperatures with stock cooler are just horrible, unless you create custom fan curve, but in this case, fan will be pretty damn loud.

So if I were you, I would just wait for RX 480 nitro from sapphire, with at least 2 fans.

In the end it's up to you, but I think it's better for you to wait for it :)

tough to get one atm. everyone bought them, so supply is low (much like the pascal launch). give it a few weeks and you'll start seeing more of them.

As far as where to get one, pretty much any online electronics retailer such as newegg, amazon, NCIX, etc will carry them. Your local computer stores may also try stocking a few
