Good, but still. It seems a bit redundant to me using a cooler that size on a chip like the 480, it's a bit overkill isn't it? I mean have you seen the size of the reference PCB? I know the STRIX won't have that PCB but it just  goes to show that it doesn't need a huge cooler. That's why Sapphire went with a dual-fan design IMHO.

I disagree. A Sapphire card hasn't looked so bad in a while to me, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Still waiting for pricing on the Strix. Might end up separating my work rig from my personal rig. Might pick it up if it goes for ~$350 here (reference currently sitting at about $330)

If reference is 330 I don't think the strix will be 350, no way that cooler is only 20$, that's why I protested against it on that card. Seems redundant spending much money on an unneeded cooler. Also ASUS seems to have a bad rep when it comes to GPUs recently. I own an ASUS card, and have done so for quite a while, but I don't plan on getting one next time, prolly Sapphire in camp red or EVGA, Zotac, MSI in camp green, depending on where I go next.

I agree i think Asus is going to far did you see there R9 390/390X and 980Ti cards those cards are longer and bigger than keemstar's sub lost (hard to beat) the 480 should be a budget card if they ask for more than $300 in the US its not worth it

My first pick is MSI, to be honest. The Strix is still on the table because it would provide some much needed cooling. Zotac tends to be a bit pricy around here and EVGA cards are ridiculously priced.

I'm well aware of the recent bad track record on Strix cards (and Asus cards in general).

My decision will probably be a sensible one that takes into account performance and reliability, not some silly RGB feature (which I could just implement on my own fairly easily)

Right now I have 3 MSI-based PCs of various ages and performances (and pricepoints) and they're all working fine and are a pleasure to tinker with. My Asus based PC is a pain to deal with (it's an older AM2 based PC that I barely use and is mostly intended as a back-up in case my streaming machine is down)

I gotta say. I've handed my GTX 560ti Hawk card to my brother when I got the ASUS 280X and the biggest shock was HOW LOUD THE DCU WAS compared to the hawk twin frozer cooler, but i forgot about it over the years.

2 days ago I took it upon myself to clean up his rig, and overclock it jus a bit and I was yet again shocked how silent that card is under load. Stock fan curves, the thing stays in low 50s and you almost can't hear it. The fans look tiny in comparison tho' :D

Man the difference in sound is huge, and the hawk runs super cool compared to my 280X.
