It really shouldn't considering different cards are rendering different frames. The transfer time of the end data to the display card should be negligible compared to the rendering time. 4K is 3840x2160 pixels * 4 channels of color at 1 byte per channel.

 

=33.1776*10^6 or ~33MegaBytes per frame vs. 4 lanes of PCIe 3.0 at 1GB/s of bandwidth each.

 

33.1776*10^6 / 4*10^9 = 8.2944*10^-3

 

That sort of transfer time is irrelevant until you're trying to break past 90 frames per second. For 1440p and 1080p it's laughably negligible on paper, meaning it's an implementation problem.

 

And most people run XFire on 8 lanes per card or even 16, so really...

you didnt read my post yet you ask me, the card was advertised for 200$, it is being sold for over 400$, theres nothing else to see here or hear about this card or future cards nothing costs what is advertised, someone is making big bucks out of this scamm and that is not me, fk videogaming industry alltogheter with chips industry

Two 480s perform a bit above a single 1070 while costing a similar amount (1070 being cheaper in the US), drawing twice as much power, and while having all the problems associated with CF. Aside from the few places where a 1070 is more expensive (which so far doesn't seem all that common based on what I've read in this and the other 480 threads) the 1070 seems like the much better choice.

I don't exactly know everything about everything,  but as I see it, 2x480, a 1070 or a 1080 these are three awful alternatives, because they all cost soooooooooooooooooooo much.

The only thing to see from that benchmarks of the 480 crossfire is that once again AMD has produced a beast which is better than nvidia's card,but as always they have shitty drivers which makes them perform badly in games.

Over time it should be partially fixed but that's sad they just don't see it...when you look at the 970, it was crushing amd cards at launch, but a year later, it performs the same or even isn't competing with a 390 anymore.

If we weren't driven by money,  we'd have a consortium between both companies, and we'd all have cards which would be so much more amazing than they are today.

How exactly is it not competing with a 390? Most of the time it out performs it. And no. A card at a smaller process node that still uses the same power as an older one to get the same performance is not much of a beast. Custom 970's and Custom 480's are likely to be similarly priced which makes the 480 fairly redundant. Also 2 480s is more than a 980ti by a good bit as well don't forget that as the 980ti trade blows or beats a 1070. You also are forgetting the drivers will only get better for the 1070 as well. If you can buy one card that performs as good or a tiny bit worse than 2 at the same price you buy the single card.

nope, I plan to enjoy my RX480 CF setup regardless of the power draw and the hit or miss support for now. They should outperform my HD7970Ghz card by a decent margin and I paid for them what I paid for my single card.

Yeah NCIX did a CF video and they found it doesn't have CF support at all. Also DX12 support hurts single card perf. Which is to be expected from a came built off DX11 and a patch slapped over it wth DX12 and say it is a DX12 game

I'm talking about the 970 which overtime hasn't progressed as much as the 390.

And the 480 is better than a 970 and will continue to be better with driver improvements.

How exactly has it? 480 has come out at its designated price and so have the 1070 and 1080. Just because the GPU manufacturers are going to raise the price for custom boards does not change the fact that it still came out at what it was said. How is the 1070 stealing? It has the best FPS/$ of any card in recent memory. And no a 480 is not better than the 970 currently. Trades blows but the 970 tends to be a touch faster.

Well it is in nearly every benchmarks I've seen, but maybe I've just saw 10 youtube review and read three articles where I got wrong informations. I am not saying it's crushing a 970 but it's slightly above in most benchmarks, and that's not me spitting on the 970.

At stock and stock it is slightly better. When both are overclocked the 970 takes the lead as the 480 is already pushed to its limits and we all know how well a 970 overclocks. And you really can't just compare the MSRP in US dollars to other regions. Is it higher than it probably should? Yes. But thats the MSRP they set in your area.

I really don't want to argue over which one is the best. You can't know how well the improved drivers will boost the 480 and neither do I. One thing is sure is that a 970 isn't going to perform much better than it already is right now.

Yes I can, with a better handled supply chain they could most probably reduced that gap by half, by eliminating some taxes by changing the way they handle stocks. From what I've seen, they centralize stocks in the US and then ship them all over the world, but it would makes sense to send the chips directly from the factories to local stocks,  like a stock for the EU, a stock for NA, one for SA, one for Asia and so on. That should lower taxes and transportation costs, and it would help having the same price everywhere.

AMD can crossfire different memory configuration so it could be interesting to test with a 480 8gb as the main card and a 4gb for DX12 games that support explicit multi-GPU. It might be interesting as DX12 has the ability to add up memory unlike crossfire/sli

That's not AMD's fault... Nvidia's prices ain't exactly cheap either in Europe. Based on just about all tech released over the last few years and living in Europe myself its actually about the price I expected it to be. In fact I half expected it to be even higher here in the UK since the value of £ has crashed to record low levels.

That is actually not that huge of a mark up if you include import and distribution fees. 

Not sure if you noticed... shits more expensive in Europe in general compared to the rest of the world.

Also that 420 probably includes tax (because europe) while the 399 doesn't because #mericuh #420swagyoloblazeit 


And yes, they did say 200 MSRP for entry level card. 

The rest of the world can buzz off, as it is just markets doing their thing.
