these are a really nice aesthetic http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811139033 but what are they called and are they available with support for boards bigger than mini itx?

Cubes? I dont know if they have any official term honestly. They are built pretty much specifically for mITX only, you might be able to find some that support mATX.

Cube cases! There's no real classification, but they fit in the tower category if anything.

Corsair has the 350D or 450D, I forget, but it's basically a cube shaped mATX case. If you want to get really crazy, Case Labs has some but they can be ungodly expensive (easily $200+ for the basic ones)

oh yea i knew that one was only big enough for mini itx

If you're looking for something with a little bigger support, there are other options like the Fractal Design Node 804 and Corsair Air 240. The 804 is my go to but it has support for a lot of drives and SLI/Crossfire.

if you have to insist you think for yourself, i'm not going to believe you.

I think this would fall under a Mini-ITX tower case?

It's a small form factor case, but not much outside of that and Mini-ITX tower.
