Asus radeon 280x coming on the 8th of October + leaked bios(280x and 270x)

brownninja97

Any problems with me saying there's no reason to wait for new GPUs from AMD unless somebody wants to buy the factual NEW GPUs (260x, 290 and 290x) because rebadges are not worth waiting for in my honest opinion?

You ever heard of mantle?

My Rig: AMD FX-8350 @ 4.5 Ghz, Corsair H100i, Gigabyte gtx 770 4gb, 8 gb Patriot Viper 2133 mhz, Corsair C70 (Black), EVGA Supernova 750g Modular PSU, Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 motherboard, Asus next gen wifi card.

Oh right, what do you mean by IPC here? If you mean instructions per cycle then you are terribly wrong, the only thing they can alter on a chip that already is made is the memory and core clocks.

What "more" is to them than older GPUs? What? TrueAudio is only on the new GPUs i.e. 260x, 290x [and 290, as well]. What else could they possibly add to the rebadged chips? xD

I don't think they are exactly the same, I think it's just REALLY REALLY similar.

That's probably the reason why they released FX-9590 4,7GHz for nearly 1000$, hehe :D

that was more for people that wanted it for bragging rights, and now they dropped the price by like 700$

But i think it's a stupid proccesor.

You ever heard of mantle?

Mantle is supported on GCN so all 7970, 7950, 7870xt etc. will be supported as well as the new cards and rebadges.

But i'll quote myself here:

You shout a lot but understand so little.

8-9 times FPS was never stated anywhere and will never happen, it's not possible with current hardware. What was stated is 9x faster sending draw calls which you clearly didn't understand. It's not about FPS, it's about how fast can CPU talk with GPU about rendering stuff, so to speak.

Not to mention Mantle is not out yet so shouting about it as a groundbreaking thing is silly... I'll believe it when I see it. Same with R9 290x as Titan killer... we'll have to wait for non-biased benchmarks before claiming it is faster than any GPU ever made because we simply don't know yet.

Only one game was announced to support Mantle now (Battlefield 4) and it's not instantly but rather in December patch (plus a promise for support in future EA games) so it's nowhere soon.

So... If Jesus had the gold, would he buy himself out instead of waiting 3 days for the respawn?

Yes, but when altering memory clock, you do so with the base clock (not multiplied by 4). 1600MHz is kinda high. RAM on the 6XXX series GPUs was around, what? 1200MHz?

What has altering the memory got to do with someone saying his RAM was as fast as the memory on this GPU?

AMD Ryzen 5900x, Nvidia RTX 3080 (MSI Gaming X-trio), ASrock X570 Extreme4, 32GB Corsair Vengeance RGB @ 3200mhz CL16, Corsair MP600 1TB, Intel 660P 1TB, Corsair HX1000, Corsair 680x, Corsair H100i Platinum

Because they are factory overclocked they are no worth that much more ... lol

If the gtx 800 series comes out it probably would wipe it's ass with those rebadges (expect the r9). First I'd guess we will see some additional 700 series cards.

yes at the eol of the cards ... look when the 7000 series was released and now consider that the r9 series consists of almost exactly the same cards ...

So the gtx680(gk104) didnt get overclocked and become a 770? and a gtx 670(gk104 again) didnt get neutred into the 760? and the 660 wont become the gtx 750? (with a little digging they have the same cores/TMU's and ROU's, the gtx 470 became the "gtx560 448".

there will probably be a 710, 720, 730, 740 which will be re-brands, nvidia like to change architecture and do a die shrink in 1 go so they will probably just re-brand the 600 series-700. the 800 series will likely be a die shrink and new architecture, and will probably launch in Q2 2015..till then AMD will begin to butcher nvidia.

AMD's 7970 was £325-375 here in the UK and competed with the 680 which was £390-£450 at the same time AND you got tons of free games, the 7950 wasnt far behind and I kept seeing "7970 vs gtx670" and thinking "get a 7950, overclock and save yourself £200 or buy 2 7950's???"

when nvidia does come out with 800 series (actually im guessing a new naming skew) in Q2 2015 amd will likely come out the following november.....like they just have.

history repeats itself (if you think this post is long, you havent seen all the date and model comparisons i've been doing the last 30 mins).

That is just disappointing.

Not really, but rather than bash AMD for doing SOME rebrands why don't you try an bash nvidia for thier re-brands too? they have plenty...

You're the guy on a moped saying that a hayabusa sucks in the corners... your right but who's going to take advice about top end bikes from a guy on a moped? (not criticising your rig, I like the parts the rider never has anything nice to say though....)

I agree completely!!!!

thing is though nvidia did it first....can't blame AMD for what i consider taking the p*** out of nvidia fanboys.

I have wondered, if you have an amd cpu you have the option of going AMDcpu+AMDgpu or just go AMDcpu+NVIDIAgpu....

...how many people have an intel processor but go and buy an amd card? ive seen one....once, look through sigs and see what i mean.

makes me think intel fanboys and nvidia fanboys are 1 in the same, that way they can bash AMD twice, we all know people are hateful...thats why facebook is so popular

that said as poor as i am deciding between 7850, 7870TLE, or 7950 (progressively less unlikely) id save every penny i have for the r9-290x...why? 512bit gddr5 bus!!!!! having gddr5 over gddr3 is great, having 384 over 256 is good but having THAT MUCH of a bus difference? never worry about bandwidth again! :D

oh and the "wait for..." is heard towards the end of every graphics cards life when a new one in rhumoured.....same for cpus but with the added "wait for the new [cpu] and buy a second-hand..[previous generation cpu]"

...how many people have an intel processor but go and buy an amd card?

I have my CPU the i5-3475S (for the HD4000) and my nvidia card mainly for OS X and the lacking support of  amd 7xxx series card back in january. If Apple improves the support for AMD cards (which probably will happen, considering the Mac Pro will be AMD based) I might as well get one.

Yeah but you're awesome....(i.e the guy on the LLT forum who posts tons of news and so on and was on the livestream once)

Someone thinks I'm awesome?

For my pertinent links to guides, reviews, and anything similar, go here, and look under the spoiler labeled such. A brief history of Unix and it's relation to OS X by Builder.

Me, I have 3 7950's and a Intel 3970X :D. I personally like both AMD and Nvidia, I also like both AMD and Intel. I do not chose one brand over the other, I just chose which ever company has the best products at the time :D
