AVG Antivirus killed my PC need help

So a bit ago my dad suggested I install AVG antivirus on my PC.  I took his advice and installed it.  Shortly after my PC began freezing after a short time of booting.  It could last from five minutes to two hours without freezing.  Judging by the fact that the freezes started right after I installed AVG, I decided to uninstall it.  There wasn't any difference made.  My PC has froze in the past, but it was never this bad.

I somehow forgot to say this, but what do you guys think the problem could be?  Do you think it's a hardware problem or maybe a software one?  And how would I go about fixing it?

thanks

I don't know how software could kill the PC like that, especially a well known and common program like that.  My guess is that if you reinstall, everything will work perfectly.  That, or your motherboard is dying and just by some cosmically colossal coincidence it started showing signs right when you installed AVG :D

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

Seems like a uncommon problem. Id restore the image backup just to be safe.

@Electronics Wizardy

I googled it and it seemed that others were having the problem, which is why I place the blame on AVG

@Ryan_Vickers

well crap, I'm using old hardware but I thought it could at least get me through until I could get the money to build a new PC, guess I thought wrong...

@SLIClocker

Personally I'm going to stay away from Antivirus for awhile and if I get one, I've used Norton before and I've had no problems with it

No you need antivirus otherwise hackers and trojans can get into your pc and mess it up all over again. Get bitdefender because i use it and have had no porblems at all. Completely zero.

You don't need antivirus. The best thing to prevent viruses isn't any antivirus program, but the user. As long as you stay away from sketchy sites and don't click ads or those fake download buttons it's extremely, extremely hard to get a virus.

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

This, and hackers can't actually access your PC remotely without your direct permission too... and in order to actually "hack" into your PC they have to first gain access to your network. Good luck with that one...

It can't be a software issue but it's AVG so no idea, if not a hardware issue, maybe some driver borked?
