Which Nvidia Gtx 1000 series card is good for 1080p gaming and has the most longevity?

1080p gaming???

you kidding right?

ANY GTX 1000 SERIES WILL OVERKILL 1080P GAMING...

EVEN A GTX 960 WILL BE ENOUGH FOR MOST 1080P GAMING...

Do you want to know how I know you don't have a clue about what you're discussing here?

OP, get the 1080 if you can afford it, but the 1070 will be fine for a few years. I've got a 970 and I have issues with plenty of AAA games at 1080p60, let alone trying to go for a higher FPS. The 970's issues are why I'm upgrading to a 1070 soon.

EDIT: To elaborate, the 1070 will absolutely max 1080p for the foreseeable future. No one can tell you how long it'll do because of how quickly games on PC(and consoles, even) are changing.

I really want an all round good gaming GPU that will last me a good couple years. I was thinking the 1070 but i am thinking it may not last me too long. The 1080 is good but the price is way over the top especially since im living in Canada, but it would probably last me a really long time.

The 1080 is more suited for triple surround / 1440p and 4K. For 1080p gaming just go for the 1070. It's better bang for the buck if your just looking at HD resolutions.

Or you can wait for the RADEON RX 480.

I'm researching the same thing but for 1440p. From what I've been reading/watching and going by the technical specs of the cards, the 1070 will absolutely do everything you want at 1080p. The 1080 would just be overkill. Hell, the 1070 appears to max all titles with all eye candy turned on, at 1440p.

1070 is overkill for 1080p, let alone the 1080.

if you're not upgrading your monitor anytime soon, consider getting the 1070 if you want overkill, and the AMD RX 480 for excellent performance per dollar, and butter smooth 60fps at max details

Given 900 series and even some 700 series cards will give you good FPS with max settings in AAA titles at 1080p still, I can't see the 1070 struggling for a good long while.

Look at al the fortune tellers, you'd think you were at the state fair...

OP, get the best graphics card you can afford. I used my 980ti for months before getting a better monitor. And ignore the people talking about the RX 480, as no one knows how it will perform until AMD lifts the NDA.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

Just get a 1070. I have a 670 and it's still perfectly fine for 1080p gaming almost 4 years later.

Not really. But deVIZtation just said his 670 is still going strong 4 years after it's release, at 1080p. The 1070 is, what, 4 generations newer? I don't think you'll run into any issues for years, if ever.

If you want to play any game, on max settings @1080p with at least 60FPS get the 1080. The 1070 is a very decent card and will also deliver awesome performance but a 1080 is not as much overkill as many here suggest. The 1070 will be enough to play *most* available and upcoming titles @1080p @max settings, but there are pretty demanding games out there that can strain high end cards even in 1080p. I'd wait till availability of those cards is better, and more and cheaper aftermarket cards are released. At the moment you pay an unneccesary extra fee for being one of the first using those cards.

If I do remember correctly it comes out on June 29th for an MSRP of $199.99 USD for the 4GB version, and $229.99 for the 8GB model (But you will probably only need the 4GB model for 1080p.

OP, longevity should not really be a major consideration, technology moves too quickly.... get what you can afford and what meets your requirements for an acceptable gaming experience in your opinion.  Out of the two options your interested in (1070 and 1080) go with the 1070 for 1080p, if you want to go to 1440p or 4k eventually, get a 1080 (or even wait for something like a 1080ti or whatever Radeon has for a comparative GPU (but this will be a while....))

I hope that's not all the RX 480 will be good for, I hope the 8GB model will stand a fair chance up to the GTX 1070 at 1440p.

At least with high/ultra presets.

The avalible VRAM has little to do with resolution. Games don't use a set amount of VRAM, they use what's available. So the more you have available, the more the games will use.

And the RX 480 scored a Steam VR benchmark of 6.3 while the 390 scores a 7.1 on average. And the test was conducted by AMD themselves. So the performance level of the 480 is a complete unknown, and the media blackout AMD has placed on it isn't a good sign. If AMD had a powerhouse, wouldn't they want the world to know?

If anyone asks you never saw me.
