polaris 10/rx 480 can hit 1.5ghz++++

Personal choice is firestrike and unigine heaven + the games u play(extremely modded skyrim in my case)

Sometimes a clock maybe stable in heaven but not in a particular game, because certain games don't like any overclocks.

What you want to look out for is artifacts and performance scaling. Sometimes an unstable clock can result in a decrease in performance.

This is at least what i do. There's certainly someone else who'll do it differently from me.

Thanks. I've already got Heaven installed and have been trying out the demo of 3DMark and was getting a little unsure as to whether I should pull the trigger on the full package. Good to know I'm on the right track.

Would Deus Ex: Human Revolution be one of those games that doesn't like overclocks? Because I managed to get a fairly stable overclock on my HD 7870 and went on a three hour gaming session in Fallout 4 (the game I was using to stability test), but then I bought and installed Human Revolution and it consistently crashed on me so I went back to stock clocks for the time being. This is why I'm trying to find more reliable ways of finding that stable point. I know 3DMark now has a stress test in it. Will that be any help?

If the reference card does indeed boost  and stay at 1266 MHz, 1500+ would be a ~20% overclock. Not huge but still better than pascal who struggles to hit 15% overclocks. Now, if partners cards hit upwards of 1400 MHz, it could be quite a good performer for the price. I can't wait to see the real benchmarks and the overclocking potential this thing has.

So an OCed 480X will be within spitting distance of a stock 1070 and for less than half the price? not bad.

The RX 480 has an overkill VRM.  Can't wait to see someone push it.

Now, you are just dreaming :P

Actually, from all the leaks, it looks the the 480 scales really well.  What if a 1600MHz gets you to a stock 980Ti?

*now I am dreaming.

The Fury X is already faster than a stock 980 Ti so I'd say 1600 may get you at a stock 1070.

lol, imagine that... would make me laugh... even if only one person gets it to stabilize for a Firestrike run.

Would be fun, would make the 480 the best value card ever made

Seeing the leaks, that 1400MHz score up past the Fury.  Man, if that is real.

It likely is. I mean, it's 14nm, we've seen more impressive jumps before.

Yup, I like to think so... but something nags at me to not believe it.  I think it stems from the FX CPU launch days.  :|

FX were ahead of their time. AMD thought Multi-core was more important. They weren't. They are now, 4 years later, and we can see FX8 being on par with i5s when 8 threads are used

I did not see the benefit as I was using a Phenom II X6 1055t at the time.  The gaming performance improvement was almost non existent at launch.

Yep, But P2 couldn't reach 4.7GHZ IIRC and the overall scaling with cores got improved. FX8 scales MUCH better than core i7s or Phenom 2

I was coming off playing online shooters where i7 920s (stock) were outperforming my 1055t @3.8GHz.  The early FX CPUs were not performing well, especially since the Sandybridge i5s were killing it at 4.5GHz.

Cause those games were limited to 2 cores mostly. :)

yup news about polaris 10, again as the title implies the upcoming new rx 480 can oc to 1.5ghz +++   yes it can because amd will be releasing new overclocking tool for the rx 480.with unlock voltage control.

Not that big of a deal, my GTX 970 can hit 1555Mhz easily. (Don't even have to touch core voltage and it's stable)

Thing is, AMD cards scale MUCH better with MHz - the same reason a 1200MHz 390 beats a 1500MHz 970

Now that I think about it, if polaris 10 overclocks well, an overclocked 470 will most likely end up meeting the standard for Vive/Rift. The only problem is the price of said VR headsets.

Welp, that might go down over time. Still though, 970 performance for 149$. What's not to like?
