My friend wants to build a PC and his parents will not let him. Do you have any tips on how he can convince his parents to let him build it and not buy it pre built ?
(cost does NOT matter for them tho)

why does he want to build a PC? (ie do he really need one?)

why does his parents not let him build one?

BTW I'm not saying he shouldn't build one, I'm currently building a light gaming rig for a nephew of mine ;)

He wants it because he wants to do some game making goodness with me
"Because prebuilts are safer" and warranty and stuff

Prebuilts aren't safer, depending on the hardware chosen by the user and the prebuilt. You have a warranty on EACH INDIVIDUAL PART, and you learn skills that can set you off on a lucrative career path; although game making isn't exactly lucrative, just fun. And it helps you learn skills to get into more important fields.

But in slovakia you pay 60$ for shitty cable management and really poorly done build overall (i did that once because i had other problems to worry about)

I meant that you should point at all the people that built computers for themselves and used it to get a get into successful careers in related fields. Basically pc building inspired them to become computer scientists, engineers, etc.

here in slovakia when you even install 2nd HDD to a prebuilt PC you instantly lost your warranty. And they blame you for everything.

You're helping my point. When you buy through other vendors you have an excellent per-part warranty.

they told his parents that when you want to return some broken parts to the manufacturers they will reject you and thats why prebuilt pcs are better from that company
(welcome in slovakia where monthly salary is approximately 200$ and taxes 20% and they manipulate with you)

That's a lie. Just buy from the right vendors. If his parents refuse to believe that, then there is no hope.

Sadly enough, people that don't know anything about tech will keep their own misconceptions alive ... and there was no hope to start with, it's an illusion!

Have a good read;

Because it's better to learn how to build and maintain your own machines than to rely on somebody that you can only guess knows what they're doing. This also applies to car maintenance but that's another subject.

if you have to insist you think for yourself, i'm not going to believe you.

My parents were VERY reluctant to let me build one, just explain to them the learning and experience value and explain how r helps you beyond gaming. I told my parents that it was nessacarily in order to continue my 3D modeling and programming hobbies, both of which could lead to careers later in life.
