Buy a GPU for 720p Gaming?

Everness
Go to solution Solved by Quaker,

At this point I would wait until later this month until some of the new AMD cards come out. The new RX 480 is supposed to be $200 (US) and there's rumoured to also be an RX 470, which would probably be in the $150 range.

If you can't wait, then I'd say that the R7 360 would probably meet your minimum needs, but an R7 370 or GTX-950 would allow you to set the graphics goodies higher.

Hi

I recently (today) updated my old PC ( Athlon 5150 w/ Asus motherboard ) to something more beefy ( FX-6300 w/ 970A Gigabyte motherboard ), the rest of my PC is: 8gb of ram ( 1 stick, going to update to 16gb in a few weeks ), 500w psu w/ 32 amps in rail +12v, generic server case and a XFX R7 250 1gb gddr5 which i think its not enough to meet my expectations, i want to play any game ( AAA titles ) high settings 1366x768 at a constant 30fps without dips to 20fps

I don't have a specific budget, but i'm looking to buy one of these:

* R7 360

* R7 370

* GTX 750Ti

* GTX 950

I can afford a GTX 960 but i want to buy what i need, not the best i can afford because that way i'll become poor in days :D, i'll be playing mainly Dark Souls 3, TW3, DA:I, League of Legends (maybe stream?), Warframe and CS:GO

What GPU should i buy? what should be the next update to the PC? I won't upgrade to a 1080p display, i'm good enough with 720p gaming.

Thanks and sorry for my bad English.

GTX 950 and maybe the 750Ti will get you 60fps in those games.

I would say that the best options are the R7 370 and GTX 950, with the edge for the GTX 950. Both of them would be enough for 720p gaming on any game with close to maxed out settings and 60 fps. Really depends on the best deal you could find between the two. I would go with a nice custom GTX 950 for low noise and low temps.

CPU : i7 8700k @5GHz, GPU : ASUS GTX 1080 Ti STRIX, RAM : 2x8Go 3000MHz Corsair Vengeance, MB : ASUS Prime Z370-A, PSU : CM V850, Case :  NZXT S340, CPU Cooler : NZXT Kraken x62, Monitor : Acer Predator XB271HU 27" 1440p 165Hz, OS : Windows 10 Home 64 bits

if your budget allows, I'd suggest waiting till end of month, and try for an AMD 480 for $200. It will work fantastic for your resolution, and will be there for you when you go 1080P

I'd go with the 950 personally, 720p isn't that demanding and it is the best from the benchs I can recall of the bunch, this is likely due to nvidia software but still.
