3 Core + HyperThreading Vs 4 Core (Intel)

Would like some feedback on which one would be superior over the other when clock speed and architecture remains constant. Been searching around in google with no definite answer and would really appreciate some help from the community.

 

Edit:  Should of mentioned why I asked in the first place, sorry. Due to Linus's virtualization gaming videos, I was wondering if 5820k clocked at 4.0 split into two systems would perform better then a similarly clocked i5.

intel doesnt make a 3 core CPU

but the 3 core hyperthreaded one would perform better in every case

3 core CPUs don't exist.

They do exist however intel doesn't make any (anymore, not sure if they ever did). AMD however has 3 core CPUs.

Intel doesn't make any but AMD does (or used to). Yas dey do, as in tri core CPUs (here's me sitting here with my cardboard PC about to get an athlon x3...which is a tri core CPU )

if you encounter a triple core CPU these days... its worth more as a display unit than as a processor most likely.

I meant in intel, I didn't know if AMD made them.

I'm typing on one right now. In fact, it's my daily driver. Can even handle console streaming and potato games.

Well I'm building it so...here's a build log  

(yes I know the IO shield cut out was the worst job ever but meh, what ever...should have used my much much sharper flip knife over a stanley knife that's kinda rusty...)

3 modules and 6 physical cores so yes, it is a 6-core

it can be argued that each module is "one and a half core" but that still wouldnt be triple core.

 

difference between hyperthread and AMD's modules is pretty simple:

- hyperthread is one core, it may be a dang beefy one, but its only one core. this core has the "I/O" to handle two threads at once, and shares its resources between them

- AMD's modules has two actual cores, but the "lesser used" parts are shared, beyond that the two threads do not interact.

I'm aware. And I'm saying that the FX6300 is exactly what he said, "its worth more as a display unit than as a processor most likely." It would make a good target on a wall. I consider that a display unit.
