So I've been looking at upgrading my PC for a while now...i have this topic-

I have upgraded my gpu slightly as was a good deal(swap with 670 and some money) and I now have a r9 280x and I am considering a motherboard upgrade as I may have a use for my current mb/cpu but ONLY if it is worth it, so basically asking, upgrade to an i5 3570k or buy a new mb/6th gen cpu? (budget under £150 for 3rd gen and under £250-ish for 6th gen, willing to buy pre-owned)

depends on if any of the features they've thrown out since the 3000 series appeal to you, and how much you're interested in that other use. Worth noting if you're OS key was an OEM key replacing the mobo will likely leave you needing a new license key

I suggest you to get a Xeon like this:

http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/INTEL-XEON-E3-1225-3-40-GHz-QUAD-CORE-CPU-PROCESSOR-LGA-1155-CHIPSET-SR00G-/252407813621?nav=SEARCH

It will bring good performance for low price. This one costs 95£ and it will bring performance of the 3750K.

Athlon X2 for only 27.31$   Best part lists at different price points   Windows 1.01 running natively on an Eee PC

Don´t change that i5... overclock it to like 4,5GHz and you are golden, maybe add some fast DDR3 RAM. Well... you have a r9 280x, at 1,2GHz it should have no problem maxing out games at 1080p.

Overall wait for the RX 480 and get that. No need to upgrade the CPU.
