Why is LG G Flex 2 So Cheap?

Benjio

I've been looking at phones lately to replace my original Moto X, I was looking at the Oneplus 2 since it is only $300 now and significantly cheaper than any similar phone. Then I found the G Flex 2, with a snapdragon 810 for like $200 new. I'm pretty sure it was like triple that amount when it came out. Is there any reason it's so cheap now? Do people just not want it because it's curved? I see no reason not to buy one they're so cheap.. I just don't understand why.

well 1, because its tied to contract

2 new tech always makes prices of the predecessors go down

Just curious, how is it tied to a contract? Is it because it's not unlocked? I'm no expert at phones.

Cause it says sprint. its tied to the cellular service

Unlocked on the other hand you can get into most every cellular service/prepaid, thats why the plans are so much cheaper but the phones are much more expensive

For instance you can get a verizon S7 edge for like 0-150$ but your contract is like 45$ a month

Unlocked the s7 edge will be $500-700 but the priceing per month can be much cheaper

Well I get that, but there isn't a cell service that's selling these phones on the internet, just random sellers. It's not like they are offsetting the low price they're selling it for. And this one is unlocked and still $210. http://www.ebay.com/itm/LG-G-Flex2-H950-Unlocked-Platinum-Silver-4G-LTE-GSM-Latest-Model-N-O-/191797626743?hash=item2ca8078777:g:sssAAOSwDNdVjbaQ

That was just the first link I found, there's plenty of others. And I still don't see how it's tied to a contract, you aren't forced to get a contract when you buy it, it's just tied to that cell services frequencies, is it not?

Which means it ISN'T unlocked.

If it is *tied* to a carrier, you can only use THAT carrier's service and SIM card.

And the E-bay one that you linked:

Quote
Condition: New other (see details) :
Seller Notes: This item was purchased as a warehouse clearance, it may have very minor manufacturer imperfections such as a small blemish or small scratch on the screen/housing.

Also to add, the LG G Flex wasn't very commonly purchased phone -- despite its performance and hardware specifications.

One of the reason is because the phone is not flat; it's curved.

How about this one? I've been picking some bad links, haha. I feel like $250-$300 is still cheap for a phone like this.

I would personally buy it directly from Amazon (and not through a third-party retailer going through Amazon's website)...but yes, the phone goes for about $200 ~ $300.

LG G Flex "series" was not a very commonly purchased phone -- despite its performance and hardware specifications.

But phone prices do go down quick -- especially when the newer model gets launched.

Look at the Motorola Nexus 6. At launch it was $650 ~ $700

Now, a brand-new, fully unlocked goes for for $210 ~ $275.

That's kind of what I was thinking. I guess that's good for me, I find it kind of cool that it's curved. :)

Its cheap because it's one of the first devices with a Snapdragon 810 with HUGE heat/throttle Problems, and it has a strong Curve, that many don't like.

Noone really bought it, so price seemed to drop.

It's also 250€ here in germany since over a half year.

The GFlex 2 didn't really have that great of a reputation because of the SnapDragon 810. It thermal throttled a lot, had overheating issues, and subpar battery life. For the price, there's probably better phones you can get.
