Alright guys, so I finished my dual pc build log, but I have a bunch of spare parts from those pcs. The spare parts include 32 GB of 2133 mhz viper ram, a GTX 980, a 840 evo 1 TB ssd from an old macbook of mine I sold, and a corsair 250D. I decided to go overboard and order a 1080 for my origin. I currently have 3(4 counting the dual pc's separately) pc's , so I decided why not build yet another pc with these leftover parts instead of letting them go to waste? Ofc there were some other parts like 2 960's and some cases, but those I'm just gonna give to friends and my cousin. So basically parts list is:

32 GB of Viper ram

EKWB S120 cooling kit with 980 waterblock and blue premix

Better cable management with corsair white sleeved cables

6950x(majority of money haha)

only mitx x99 mobo from asrock

GTX 1080 until waterblock arrives and then 980 oced(1080 goes into origin)

1TB 840 SSD

Corsair 250D

Splurge and get the Asus x99 Deluxe II. I just bought that and the 6850k literally a few minutes ago. I can't wait to see how it performs. A lot of people are unhappy with Broadwell-E, but I feel like going from my Skylake system to this, I am going to be very happy with it.

Why the 6850 over the 6800 btw?

It came down to the number of PCIe lanes for me. I don't honestly think I will use the full 40 that the 6850k has, but I wanted to keep my options open for some fast storage down the road even if I do a CFX or SLI setup.

That is something I have been wondering about too actually. I currently have a 6700k with 980ti sli. I am selling the cards and going for a single 1080 for the time being along with a samsung 950 pro pcie ssd. Now if I add another card down the road, will that in any way impact performance? As the PCIE ssd uses some lanes too right?

Thanks

I too went from a 6700k. So if you get the 6800k, you will have 28 PCIe lanes. Two graphics cards and a 950 pro will theoretically use 36 lanes. That being said, so far there hasn't been video cards that fully saturate 16 lanes of PCIe gen3. You would probably still be okay, or would only see very small differences in benchmarks. I doubt you would actually notice any difference.

I am doing the 40 lane CPU because I am one of those people who want to do it just in case, and want to make sure I am getting all of the bandwidth possible. I don't know if anyone has tested the saturation of 16 lanes by at GTX 1080 yet, so it might be worthwhile to wait and see what that shows.

I like your approach, I will look into it I think before I start buying blocks and fittings for my loop as it does mean i ll need a new motherboard too. Maybe the Deluxe II as EK has a good looking block for the white board. And perhaps the gtx 1080 might show some difference along with the HB SLI bridge ?

Thank you

Thank you

The Deluxe II is a sweet, board and I am super excited. One thing to keep in mind though, is that it is eye-watering expensive. lol. Check out some of the new X99 boards that have been released and see what style goes with whatever theme you want to do. There are definitely some nice boards that aren't as expensive as the Deluxe II, and there are even older X99 boards that would still work with the new Broadwell-E chips.

Of course, if you have the money, I say go for the Deluxe II. I'll try to remember to message you once I get my rig going, and give you my impressions of the board.
