So from the live event it is said to be having 8 cores and 16 threads, the IPC jump from previous gen is 40%, where will this CPU roughly land performance wise in todays CPU market?

40% from what?  If that's accurate we should be able to estimate performance quite accurately.

It's very difficult to determine that based on a couple specs. Obviously it will be better than AMD's previous lineup of CPUs, but there are so many more factors that come into play when determining the real-world performance of a CPU. The number of cores, threads, and improvements in IPC are not enough to determine what you are asking.

Ok yeah true, i will take a rough stab at Haswell performance but with better multi thread, that's all i can grab from it.

 

I am strongly considering that beautiful RX 480 though, the price is too good.

Probably right around Haswell with single thread performance, but might beat it in multi-threaded performance. It's really anyone's guess at this point. We won't know for sure until it launches.
