Bare minimum $250 build

kroom

I want to build a PC ASAP but my monthly budget is really low.

So I thought I should buy low-mid end components and gradually upgrade them.

I already own a 7870, monitor and I can disassemble an external HDD for the Seagate Barracuda drive that's inside.

Would socket 1150 would be the best bet?

Thinking I should buy a Pentium G3220 (and upgrade next month), 4GB RAM and a SeaSonic G-450 (SSR-450RM) PSU.

I probably cant fit a case (that I like) in the budget so for a few weeks it would be running in/on a box.

What would be the best option for a motherboard? It needs to have a decent feature set (like USB3 front panel headers). I do not plan on overclocking.

Don't buy low end components and then upgrade them, just save your money and wait until you can buy decent parts otherwise you will be buying two PC when you only need one.

I could sell the G3220..

4GB RAM and the SeaSonic PSU dont need to be replaced.

Only issue is the motherboard.

Man, just wait with it until next month so you have $500, for that money you can get a nice CPU+Mobo+RAM combo, put the 7870 in and run i on some base storage and cooling, basically whatever you can afford at that moment.

Wait until you have money for this:

CPU:  AMD FX-8320 3.5GHz 8-Core Processor  ($144.99 @ Amazon)
Motherboard:  MSI 970A-G46 ATX AM3+ Motherboard  ($64.99 @ Newegg)
Memory:  Corsair XMS3 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1333 Memory  ($59.99 @ Microcenter)
Storage:  Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive  ($59.98 @ Outlet PC)
Case:  Zalman Z5 Plus ATX Mid Tower Case  ($35.99 @ Newegg)
Power Supply:  Corsair CX 500W 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX12V Power Supply  ($47.99 @ Microcenter)
Total: $413.93
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)

Keep on forgetting the word, but your GPU wont work as well with a CPU like that.

FX 8320 is retarded. FX6300 has better $$$/performance and less heat / wattage.

The FX8320 can compete against i5 while FX6300 can compete (and doesn't win) against i3. Who cares about heat output? Nobody. And the price/performance ratio is better, not to say that FX8320 will last, while FX6300 is on end of it's lifecycle.
