Opinions and suggestions for build

Other than that it looks good, unless you can find a nicer PSU for a similar price

Change your 960 for a 970... I know its about $80-100 more still but it will be so worth it when you hit that 2GB texture limit constantly in the next few years... Take it from me I have a strix 960 in my office PC and I dont bother running GTA, crysis or Witcher 3 on it any more just because of the difference between the 960 and my 970.

 

I think the 970 is really underrated!

I know it's been said before, but wait for 1070 non reference cards to come out... we're talking maybe a month from now hopefully

Yeah but if the original budget was for a $180 GTX 960 then a 1070 is probably going to be wayyyy too over budget...

Yeah I know, but a 970 was mentioned and in that case a 1070 would be a bit more than that. If the OP suggests a total budget maybe things can be tweaked for a better build.

Hey, do you have a final budget in mind?  I'm thinking you could even get a nice intel build for around the $1000 mark.

That is true, I suppose because of how many parts I go through I'm always thinking of the used parts market rather than brand new! Silly me!

The above is just over $1000, is intel build, overclockable, great PSU etc... and with the 960 you wanted.

 

 

Same system, but wait for a 1070 non-reference card, add about $350 at most I reckon, so approx $1100.

 

[edited the build] RAm might have had compatability issues with the cooler, so all changed now, hope it's within your budget OP

I can get it down to $900 for a non-OC build, but still with a great PSU, I wouldn't recommend a bad PSU to be honest as the PSU should last you a long time like with the 10 year warranty and all... so that's like $9 a year for a great PSu if you look at it that way.

Actually I forgot to take out the cooler, don't need it if not OC'ing, so that's another $25 off the price too, it's $870 now, with only 1 stick of RAm at 8GB, so you can just add another stick of the same later if needed.
