Intel i7 or AMD FX-8300?

I want to start PC gaming and have decided to buy the parts to build my own PC. I have various other parts decided but I cant decide which CPU to buy because its just too damn confusing. I plan to use my PC for gaming, playing games like CSGO, battlefield, next-gen games, etc., and also things like school projects, movie editing from time to time, surfing the web, and streaming videos and movies. The use of the PC apparently has something to with which CPU you'll need. I've done some of my own research and landed on the conclusion that the Intel® Core™ i7-6700 Processor (8M Cache, up to 4.00 GHz) is a good choice for a long lasting PC, but a major put off for me is the price. I was wondering if any of you could give me a recommendation for a CPU that has similar performance for less price if possible. I'm not a hardcore gamer, I dont overclock and have no idea what it means, I'm not an enthusiast so I dont really want anything too serious. I would appreciate any help, thanks.

FX-8300 can be out performed by a intel core i3 så i think that tells the story..

But with you primary use of a pc, a intel core i5-6600k is more than enough for you.

AMD doesn't have anything that is as good as the i7 6700 ATM, but the "Leaked" benchmarks look promising for ZEN.

The i7 6700 is the way to go.

You could get a 6600 for $220 on amazon which isn't that far off from the 6700 and will be just fine for gaming

You sure? The i5 was the one that I'm planning on buying, but I was talking with one of my friends about this and he said that to run game like witcher 3 and battlefield I would need i7

If you only gaming get Intel i5 6600k then overclock it and save 100$ on better GPU just like i did :) But if you have the money defintely go for Intel i7 6700k as you can barely tell the different between them when it comes to gaming.

An i5-6500 or -6600 would do you quite well. I'd hesitate to recommend an i3 because you're talking about video editing, but a locked i5 should be solid for you. Avoid the i5-6400, as the downclock on it is pretty harsh.

Hmmm well, i got my old rig that have a FX-8350 4.00GHz with two HD6970 and that runs CS:GO on high with about 150-250fps

And i just upgraded one of my friend's littlebrothers pc with and i5-6600(non-k) and we used his old HD6950 and that runs CS:GO on high with a little more fps than my old rig xD

So FX-8350 vs. Intel Core i5-6600(non-k) = i5-6600 BIG TIMES WINNER
