How much power supply do i need?

Hey guys,

I'm planning to build a new gaming pc and i am not sure as to how much wattage do i really need for my setup. I've tried using the online calculator, but different sites give me different answers, so i'm really confused. The components i'm putting in are,

intel i7 6700k processor

msi z170a krait gaming 3x motherboard

kingston technology hyperx savage ddr4 16Gb (2400 CL12) 2x8GB sticks

nvidia gtx 1080 graphics card

nzxt kraken x61 liquid cooler

Please help me in choosing a good psu for my setup.

The 1080 draws about the same wattage as the 980, 180/165 respectively.
So I'd suggest getting the Seasonic S12II 520w.

I have almost the same build, only I got the 980. I have a 650 watt PSU and it works fine. I wouldn't recommend more, since you won't be needing that

If you plan on things like getting another graphics card, water cooler or just expanding your build (or overclocking), a higher PSU might be required but if not, then I suggest a 500W or higher PSU.

If you google 'computer power supply calculator', there will appear a site that can calculate pretty accurate total wattage consumption for the system.

http://outervision.com/power-supply-calculator

Google is a powerful tool.

An EVGA GS/G2 would both suit well. Corsair's RMi is also a stellar unit.

Except we always frown upon calculators here as they just spit random numbers out that don't actually correlate to how much power your system actually uses.

No problem! Hopefully those three can find their way into your budget! I'd assume so if you can afford a 1080.

Yeah I'm planning towards the 1080 but i think that by the time i get to buying the graphics card, i might just settle for a 1070, seems quite promising and costs way less than a 1080. Depends on how much i can afford once i put in the rest of the parts. I need a new monitor too.

There would be no reason, for instance, to get an EVGA 650 G2 over the 550 G2 even if he watercools and overclocks. I mean, the unit has a 10 year warranty, it should handle it without any problem, the 550 G2 should indeed. Also, the 650 G2 is not as good as the 550 G2 (less good ripple, PWR_OK troubles) and is usually very poor value comparably.

A 500w should be fine. Hell, you might even get away with 450w, tbh. If you are like most games and "overbuy" on your wattage, go 600w or 650w if you must -- but any more than that is just totally wasting your money,

Trying to be lean on your wattage and devote your savings to better after market fans is not a bad thing. 3 (or 4) Corsair AF140s will make quite a difference in your case airflow and keep everything cool.
