4770k bottleneck GTX 1070?

im thinking im getting close to a dire need of upgrading my gtx 670. Im planning on the gtx 1070, but was wondering if my 4770k would bottleneck at all?

I think if you google this exact question or just search this forum, the amount of answers you will find would bottleneck that 1070, not your 4770

Any i7 less than 5 years old won't bottleneck your 1070 or even 1080 GPU.

That depends on what resolution.  At 1080p, a 4770k would bottleneck a 1070 in the sense that a 6700k might be able to eek a few more fps out of the card.  However, it will never bottleneck it to the point of noticeable difference in play experience. At some point, either the cpu or the gpu will bottleneck the other in every single system.  It only becomes a problem when there is a large disparity between the tiers of the cpu and gpu. With your case, the 4770k is not going to limit a gpu to unacceptable performance for 5 years or more.

What? No. We've covered this. CPU wise there is no difference between the performance of a 4770k and a 6700k. The 6700k is just much more efficient.

 

The platform *can* offer benefits such as faster RAM clock speeds, which only help curtain games and are a diminishing return in a hurry as the speeds increase.

It depends on the game. If you play mobas or gta5, you'll need an overclock. Although for gta5, I think reviewers are recommending hexa cores to run that properly.

Your own video presents evidence against this. If the gains were from DDR4 ram, then you would expect the 6700k with ddr3 to be demonstrably slower, but that isnt the case.  Regardless of the semantics of whether it is the platform or the processor, DDR4 is not available for the 4770k, meaning that whatever the cause (I'm not at all convinced based on Your video that it was the ram), is going to be slightly slower.  Or in other words...slightly more of a bottleneck.

Semantics is right. There is always a bottleneck, and it changes between applications. Horrible analogy to follow.

 

The issue is 99.9999999% of people don't use their PC's to it's full potential. Like having that sports car with the giant V8 but always fighting traffic. If I sat you or anyone else down in front of a monitor and switched between a 4770k and a 6700k you wouldn't be able to tell the difference in any game, I would bet you on this.

 

That's the problem. The bottleneck which started all of this is a CPU holding a graphics card back, any i7 from the last 5 years will not do this with any single GPU graphics card, and a 6700k would hold back a Pro Duo as well.

 

I get what you mean, but as I said you would not be able to tell me which is the 6700k in a blind test.
