Could I push a 1440p ultrawide?

Oldaccount1234123

Hello LTT community!

Quick question, I was wondering if I would be able to easily push a 1440p 34 inch ultrawide such as the Dell U3415W.

I mainly play CS:GO, Dota and Arma 3 and Star Citizen. I know I can run the first two fine, but the others I am hesitant about. I have an i7 6700k and 980 Ti.

My standard FPS is around:

Arma 3 single player: 60fps

Arma 3 multiplayer: 20 - 40fps (Only 20 when in the main city during peak hours)

Star citizen single player: 50 fps

Star citizen multiplayer: 20 fps.

Do you think that an ultrawide is worth it? Or should I just get a normal widescreen 1440p display such as the pg279q

Thanks!

Arma 3 is very badly optimised and very very CPU heavy so you will be fine :D

With a 6700k and 980ti, you should will be able to push 3440x1440 :D

Looking at my signature are we now? Well too bad there's nothing here...

Normal because ultrawide support is shit and many games dont support it

My main system has same CPU and GPU, but I'm on the other side of the fence in space games with Elite Dangerous. I will say for that, the experience with a ultra-wide is definitely worth it. I have the LG one (3440x1440). I do wish I had a faster GPU at times but I wouldn't give up the monitor even if I drop to 30fps. Mine doesn't have G-sync and I think that would have helped at the lower framerate situations.

Gaming system: R7 7800X3D, Asus ROG Strix B650E-F Gaming Wifi, Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE ARGB, Corsair Vengeance 2x 32GB 6000C30, RTX 4070, MSI MPG A850G, Fractal Design North, Samsung 990 Pro 2TB, Acer Predator XB241YU 24" 1440p 144Hz G-Sync + HP LP2475w 24" 1200p 60Hz wide gamut
Productivity system: i9-7980XE, Asus X299 TUF mark 2, Noctua D15, 64GB ram (mixed), RTX 3070, NZXT E850, GameMax Abyss, Samsung 980 Pro 2TB, random 1080p + 720p displays.
Gaming laptop: Lenovo Legion 5, 5800H, RTX 3070, Kingston DDR4 3200C22 2x16GB 2Rx8, Kingston Fury Renegade 1TB + Crucial P1 1TB SSD, 165 Hz IPS 1080p G-Sync Compatible

You will have to lower few settings in few most demanding games like Witcher 3 if you want to maintain 60 FPS, but very most of games will run maxed out no problem. If you are not super picky about performance, which you are not if you accept playing in 20-40 FPS range, I wouldn't even look on game that runs like this, you will have no problems.

There are already so many videos and guides about ultrawides so there is no point on writing anything about "is it worth it" and etc.
