ssd in a nas?

If i want to have the highest possible performance for some data in a (DIY) nas: does it make sense to have one SSD in a NAS (beside a mirrored pair of HDDs) for this data?

What type of network will you be running and what type of files will make up the bulk of your storage?

If the data gets replicated off the SSD to another pool/set of drives, then no harm no foul.

No, unless your are running 10gbe, fiberchannel, or infniband. 1 gig is still limiiting. Id suggest hdd though.

In my opinion a SSD for a nas is not a bad idea but it won't really make a difference of what type of SSD you get they all good in this case.

not all SSDs are good

a lot of them use crappy TLC nand or have degradation issues
