Which AMD Processor do you prefer?

1. 880K gives you a better cooler... (the cooler is almost equal to the 212 Evo)

2. FX-6350 is a better for DX11 games than both the Athlons...

3. FX-8370 has better binning than the FX-8320E and will reach better clocks... (worth it over the i5 right now? No I seen some Skylake i5s at same price point so nope... But great for DX12 & you get a great Wraith cooler!)

My favourite AMD CPU right now is the Athlon x4 845.

 

Because along its FM2+ brothers it's the only good value for the money from AMD for gaming right now.

I didn't fucking say that. And with early Piledriver APU at least, they are beaten clock for clock by K10 mobile CPU. And both are old and outdated (also, K10 on 32nm would have been far better than Piledriver is). Also I managed to find out that the A8 4555M in my notebook has 2x 2GB DDR3 1333 in dual channel-and it is definitely slower than the 2x2GB DDR3 1066 that I was running in dual channel with my laptop's original Phenom II P920.

 

Notes about Piledriver:

• Its the replacement for K10's successor Bulldozer, and only equals K10 single threaded-despite K10 being at 45nm and Piledriver at 32nm
• The IMC in Piledriver based CPU and APU is actually a large step back from the IMC found in K10 CPU & APU
• It along with the rest of the CMT lineup was a mistake on the scale of Netburst.

Please wait until Zen comes out. All the current gen CPUs from AMDs are close to garbage. Not worth in 2016.

Zen but too bad it came out too late  (oh well, 5820k it is, really happy with it...I now get 600-700fps in cs instead of only 300-400 with my i5 3570k@4.2Ghz )

I don't understand why they didnt just shrink the phenom x6 honestly, it would run circles around the FX line.

860K if you absolutely need something right this second, Zen if you can wait. There is no other AMD processor worth putting into a new-build desktop right now. Maybe, maaaaaybe an A10 if you're doing a slim HTPC on a budget with no dedicated GPU.

IKR? But it seeems that on the CPU side of things, AMD decided to go full retard back in 2010, and we ended up with an entire architecture being sold to those who didn't know that the "core" count was just marketing BS, and that the CPU were only good in very specific circumstances.

Well at 4ghz a phenom x6 isnt too far off from a stock 4770k in cinebench, so at 32nm it could have been very competitive, and also be able to clock higher in theory.

I don't get why AMD didn't just shrink the Phenoms AFTER they realized FX was a flop and call them the X300s.

How is it hotter than an intel chip? 

running something like google chrome will take it up to 30C or so. it doesn't matter if it's thermal limit is 61c, it gets really high from just doing small tasks, so if I binge watch Netflix my room gets pretty hot because that thing is running at 30-35c, and it's 77F in my house (my stepdad is fucking weird) it gets pretty uncomfortable when /just/ internet browsing.

 

if I play games, I have that 8350 grinding it's ass off at 45c or 50c, and a 760 that can barely stay below 85c. yeah, average temps to some extent, but again it's hot in my house and my area so it gets pretty bad.

Athlon X4 880K is pretty much on par with an i3 but usually cheaper
Athlon X4 845K is the best budget CPU on the market
