2007 new-&sealed-in box cooler. Will its original TIM still be good?

Dabombinable

I just got one of these today and I was wondering if its original TIM would still be good? Still amazed that I've found another chipset/CPU cooler that is from just before and after the beginning of the first of the Core 2 series.

I'll be using it with a Wolfdale E6500K BTW and I will be overclocking it as far as possible while being silent.

The problem ATM is that my current thermal compound is the exact same stuff used by OEM (the white Zinc based goop-which keeps on making me think of how well sunscreen will do), and with it I did have my worst E6500K not thermal throttling at 2V.

well if the paste comes in a tube then it's probably fine

if it's pre-applied then it probably dried out slightly so temps wont be as great

might be wise to use fresh paste then

or you could use it first, and if you're unhappy with the temps then apply new paste

New paste! And a new cooler for that matter, that's never going to be silent, and definitely not when overclocking.

It'll probably be fine. There's no harm in trying it out and replacing it if there are issues.
