gtx 780 sli or gtx 1080?

I currently have a gtx 780 but I feel with most newer games its not going to handle 1440p very well and I want to upgrade it. Should I get a used 780 for sli, about $300, or get a 1080, about $800? I don't know the performance boosts for a 1080, but I know that at 1440p,for most games at least, I will get me about at least 80% more frames with another 780. I'm also open to getting a 1070 if that works, but that'll be about $500-600.

If these numbers look off its cause I live in Singapore.

i would get the 1080 . 780 sli will have issues with multi-gpu and only has 3gb . that and 1080 should be more powerful . just wait for the AIB cards that cost 599$

Since SLI is not always that good (some games just do not support it at all), I'd recommend to sell your current gtx 780 and get a 1080.

But if you don't feel free to get it, then you can look at 980ti.

Go for the 1080 because the 780 hasn't aged well

And SLI isn't supported in most games so single GPU will be a better solution especially since the 1080 will probably beat the 780 sli

And if you don't want to wait then buy a GTX 980ti for cheap since people are selling them around now

I would use the 780 until the 1080/1070 launch, then sell the 780 and buy one of the new ones. I would always go with single better GPU than SLI because games just don't support it that well.

just compare benchmarks of your 780 to 1080 and you will get your answer

I've been using the 780 superclocked SLI since 2013. No problems at all and all games supported so far. So I don't know what people is talking about. It looks to me that most of people that talk about SLI don't have one.

That being said, I'm changing the 780 SLI for a 1080 SLI. The reason is even with high clocks on the 780 SLI (watercooled 1200mhz+ core) can't play some games at 1440p at solid 60fps. So far I've been using my 1440p monitor for gaming and not my 4k monitor because the 780 SLI just don't have enough VRAM, and of course even if it had enough RAM, doesn't have enough power for 60fps.

a used GTX 780 isn't worth 300$ anymore...if the GTX 1070 can be had for like 400$ or 450$...then the GTX 780 used is worth like 150 to 180$ tops...depending on the model etc.

That said, i think you should sell your GTX 780 for 150$ and with the money either buy a GTX 980ti (i've seen some for around 400$ online) or wait till GTX 1070 launch and grab that.

EDIT: Translate prices to singapore dollars :P

The GTX1080 is not that great as many excpect to be.

Yes it has 8GB and yes it consumes less power but in games is barely 15% better than the GTX980Ti, 20% at best in some games.

I saw that video where a GTX1080 is running the new DOOM and it reaches 200FPS for a second but in average of 130FPS at 1080p in Nightmare mode

so... I made a little benchmarck with my GTX980Ti and guess what :

Frames - 6364

Time(ms) - 60000

Min - 67

Max - 178

Avg - 106.067

Dont get me wrong, the new GTX1080 is worthy more that a GTX780 SLI for many reasons but just like others said, You cant still

get the GTX980Ti and get a good performance; I play at 1440p and still games suffer to break the constant 60FPS at ULTRA settings

so I doubt that just one GTX1080 can handle the games; you would still need SLI if you want superior peformance.

True ... GTX 1080 isn't 2x faster than titan X. At least not in real games and benchmarks. It's 2x better only in VR.

To the OP: I suggest you to wait 2 days till we get benchmarks of 1080 from linustech.

I would pick 1080 over 780 (ti) SLI any day. If you can afford it :)
