Clubconsoles
Go to solution Solved by duncanbullet,

Have him check the power supply, are there any fans/noises being made when he hits the start button, is the green light lit on the back indicating power is being fed to the power supply,.

My friend was launching roblox and his pc randomly shut off and would not turn on. He needs help on how to fix it.

Thanks.

take out the power plug, wait, plug it back in and try again.

If that doesn't work, do it again, and remove cmos battery this time too (place it back after waiting 30 seconds with power unplugged).

If that also doesn't work, we might have a big problem.

He doesn't know what a CMOS battery is. He is not good at taking things apart.

Tried what you said and nothing.

Oh fuck. That makes this a bit more complicated. Okay, first thing to check, is the battery connected properly? Is the battery dead? Has he tried with the charger connected?

Yea that will make things a lot more difficult.

CMOS battery is with some laptops completely hidden so disassembly to a far degree is sometimes required.

The best thing i can say then is to take out the charger, take out the battery, wait, plug power in (leave battery out) and try again.

If you can take the battery out of course.

And none of the fans are turning on? Has he dropped this thing recently or moved it around while the computer was on and the lid was open?

If it's acting like a brick and the power button does nothing, I think you should try resetting the CMOS as @samcool55 suggested, but if you can turn it on, see if you can get into the BIOS.

If he still has warranty, RMA it, if it's not, then it's time to take out the screwdriver.

If he has never done it before, DON'T let him do it on it's own! won't end well!

Let someone take it apart that knows what he/she is doing and the necessary work.

I can't. I will have to wait for my friend to send it to me tomorrow afternoon. He doesn't know how to take apart a computer and he will probably mess it up more.

Update: When he unplugs it and plugs it back in it lights up to say it is charging and a few seconds later it turns off.

If it's acting like a paper weight, I would think the motherboard is toast, but see what you can find if you take it apart.

so 3 things could have happened.

1. battery and charger died at the same time

2. some with the internal power delivery has gone wrong (could lead to 1.)

3. something has gone really wrong with mobo or cpu. if that is the case that laptop is financially dead.

in any of thise cases i would go to a pc shop for a more extensive diagnose.

The only thing you can do is go to a repair shop.

Doing DIY repairs on laptops nowadays is quite difficult, and you can easily break some cables, which can just make even more trouble.
