I personally believe that telephone networks will no longer exist in the future. I believe VOIP will take over and we will use the internet for most means of communication. That is only when the internet and the infrastructure becomes faster, lower latency and more reliable.

I do (or at least want to) believe that the desktop PC will still be around.

10 years? They're probably right, some enthusiasts will probably still build their own but a lot can happen in 10 years. How much CPU/GPU power can they pack into a small package? Also don't forget NVIDIA GRID, depending on how much it costs anyone will be able to play a game on ultra 1600p no matter their setup, I'm sure there are a lot of people who would rather just plug their laptop into the TV and stream a game in ultra for a few bucks instead of paying $1500+ to play the most recent games on their highest settings.

No one can tell the future. In the 90's people thought in the 2000's we would have flying cars. Don't read to much into this because well it won't happen.

I would never get rid of a very usable workstation for an iPad..ever..maybe buy the iPad as a secondary unit to have around, but wow.

I thought a hipster was supposed to use devices that that isn't deemed "mainstream"...the iPad is as mainstream as a Mcdonalds Bigmac.

CRTs probably won't exist in 10 years. It's sad because the Sony FW900 produces extremely good color at a high refresh rate with very low motion blur. You can't get all of those things at once on an LCD; granted, I haven't looked at many $2400 LCDs.

Yeah, he figures that for his next indie film project he will need to edit in the r.v on the road (I may be helping him with this) and that the black magic is better for compositing (yes compositing on an ipad with avid studio and this one free app)

Imagine if you could get a notebook with legit desktop workstation specs with a mechanical keyboard. I'd use it. Notebook keyboards pretty much suck.

You ever use a powerbook g4 keyboard? or origional macbook pro 2006? those things were epic
