Hard Disk not powering on- possible fix

Humbug

Hi. I have a 2TB Seagate Barracuda hard drive. ST2000DM001.

It is currently not powering on, no noise, not spinning. Can I assume that the data is intact? If I get my hands on a pcb of the same model can I swap it out and will the drive work again with same data?

the moment you open it

there's a 99% chance you wont be able to run it again, if you're the average joe

you'll need a clean room without dust + know the right torque to lock the screws for the hard disk to function properly

if those data are important to you, send the drive in to be fixed or send it to a data recovery specialist

but how is it not powering on? did you try different psu/sata power cable?

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

Well it's a mechanical hard disk drive. So even if you can't hear it spinning if you put your hands on it normally you can feel the subtle vibrations from the spinning platters inside. But in this case I feel nothing, no movement, and no noise. And the BIOS doesn't see it. Yes I have tried different power and SATA cables.

I don't need to open the hard drive casing, I don't need to expose the platters. The pcb is on the outside and can be unscrewed independantly.
