R9 290x lightning crossfire *very hot*

Hello guy's 

i have a problem with crossfire, one of the two cards hit 93 !!!

even when i put the four noctua fans on 3000 rpm "i have a fans controller" the only way to calm it is by opening the case. 

 

 

So what should i do?

Question - why are you not powering the GPUs properly? Each needs 3 connectors for optimal use - could be part of the issue

I'm not sure that would cause the 290X to hit 93C on the Core. The extra connector for each card is for overclocking purposes. Obviously the card is okay with it if it works.

Guess. Btw - is it me or are the internal fans facing the wrong direction?

Well you do have the heat from the CPU blowing into the GPU's. Have you thought of that?

Have you tried cleaning the card for dust?

1. Your ambient temp is probably quite hot

2.those are 2 very high tdp cards in a small case right next to each other

3. You are already blowing hot air on the cards through the radiator

4.There is simply not enough airflow to provideo both cards with cool enough air.

 

Solutions:

1. go liquid on the gpus

2 Downvolt the gpus a bit

3. Improve airflow

4. replace the TIM with CLU, that should drop temps by 5-10°C, but wont solve the reasons you have issues.

Just FYI, it's been shown that having a radiator intaking air and the fans blowing through the rad into the case doesn't make any considerable difference in temperatures for the rest of the system.

Are you happy with your tri-x fury? I've found one for 525 euros and it is quite tempting, although I don't know if it would be worth it over my 970

yeah, probably does.

 

i'd suggest rather pumping air into the sides of the cards than the front, because of the fin alignment.

this kind of setup is why the non-window fractal desing define R5 has a moduvent on the side panel.

1. Your card is starved of air

2. You are feeding even hotter air to your cards( the 4 noctua radiator fans blowing hot air to your lightning)

 

How to solve? 

 

1. Mount your rad on the top or...

2. Buy a bigger case or...

3. Get some more distance between your cards or...

4. Give me one of your lightnings

In the manual it's said you don't have to connect the all 3 unless you're gonna overclock it, actually i bought becaus it's look very beautiful not for overclocking ?

No, the cpu is stock, the air isn't hot

I'm keeping the water cooling as the last solution, I didn't understand the solution number 4? & how can i downcolt?

In the top i can only put one fan

if I bought a bigger case i need a bigger motherboard right?

It looks like the fans on your rad are pointing the wrong direction. Even then,  i would still get a bigger case if you're going to sli or xfire 3 slot GPUs.

Never mind then. You have fans the right way. Still need a new case though, where you can have 3 140mm fans in front.

Hmm... Now that's difficult. Now if you were to end up getting a bigger case, your mobo will be just fine. Mount your rad up top and you'll have fresh, cool air intake for your Lightnings. 

 

I'll still need to check one thing though. Can you tell me the model of your mobo?

You have too much heat sitting inside the case with next to no exhaust. You will probably want to fill all 3 120mm fan positions at the top of your case to get as much exhaust as possible. Also, it will not make any real difference that your radiator is positioned at an intake position. The air is still significantly cooler than the gpu and will cool just as effectively.

 

Edit: Why is it that you can only put one fan at the top of the case? The H440 lists support for 3 x 120mm fans.

No. Many larger cases have support for smaller boards just fine, including ITX.
