Build advice i3 vs Fx vs whatever u guys recommend

Hey team just need some advice on my next build. Will have this for 2 years and playing at 1080p

Im moving over seas so have to build a new rig.

I was going to get a fx 6300 but I feel that a i3 6100 or i3 4170 is a better option (moving to ausy form new zealand) best site to get parts in aus https://au.pcpartpicker.com fx 6300 $152 i3 6100 $159 i3 4170 $159 i3 5160 $149

Options are get the fx and a board i can oc with and go for it

get the i3 6100 with a z71 board with some dd4 in case i want to upgrade later

or the i3 4160/70 with some dd3 and a cheaper non oc board and just live with that until my next build in 2 years

I dont relay game that much anymore i play LOL about 3 4 days a week then maybe play 1 or 2 other games maybe in a year.

thoughts ?

also thoughts on over clocking. will need to get a cooler for the so an extra $50 or so.

Should I run the stock cooler on the i3 or do i get a z170 board and a after market cooler and overclock the base. worth it ?

any other advice go for it

Get the i3 6100 with any LGA 1151 motherboard.

get DDR4. It doesn't cost more and it's faster.

ddr4 for skylake

DDR3 on skylake will damage the IMC of the chip

any form factor will do? anything specific you need from the motherboard?

like 4 dimm slots, ATX board, wifi or w/e

Any that will take 4 RAM slots is my usual recommendation unless you're overclocking. If you need wifi you might be better off getting a PCI-E wifi card.

was thinking on doing an itx build but the one itx board is up there in price. probs nothing i realy need. can without wifi and probs going to run 2 x 8gb for ram so 2 is fine

I vote for Skylake i3 or AMD FX6350 + Wraith! (Haswell i3 is not worth it in my opinion)

Not Hyperthread Haswell and Skylake i3.......they compete with FX 9590 in games.

If all you're playing is League and other such undemanding titles, you could get away with a really budget build. i3-6100, H110 (possibly mATX) motherboard, R7 360/370 or GTX 750 Ti, and you've got yourself a winner.

FX 6300 and i3 4170 perform the same in modern games. i3 6100 is around 20% faster. Go for an i5 if you can

FX-6350+wraith, i3-6100, i5-4690K or i5-6600K is the best options right? (sorted by price)

I have a equally good cooler on my 880K and its so cool and silent! (it was cheaper than new board + cooler)

i3 6100 > FX 6300 > i3 4170

LGA 1151 B150 or H170 or Z170 > 990FX/Z97 > 970 chipset > B85/B81

The i3 6100 has nearly matching multi core performance to a 6350 at stock. A Overclocked (4.6Ghz or above) 6350 will beat a i3 6100 at multi core, but not even remotely match it in single core.

 

A i5 6500 scores 196 in single core Cinebench R15. That is at 3.2Ghz / 3.5Ghz Skylake chip. My FX 8320 at 4.7GHz cannot push beyond 115 in single core.

 

The 6500 scores 555 points at stock speeds in multi core, my FX 8320, 6 cores enabled at 4.6GHz scores 556....

I'll add this note, with my i5 4440 turboing a single core to 3.3GHz, an FX 8320 and 8350 at just over 5.3GHz is still slower single threaded.

No, it'd perform worse. MC makes use of processing cores better than processing modules.
