Any reason to not disable page file in windows?

So I may have gone insane and ordered 128gb or ram for my computer. We can leave my decision making skills and chrome tab jokes for another time.

Knowing windows, it's going to make my page file at least the size of my ram (prob higher). My PC is completely SSD Based (2x240gb RAID 0). I can't think of any reason not to disable my page file all together as I will never under any circumstances use more than a fraction of the 128gb of ram.

So my question is, can anyone think of any reason to leave the page file enabled at all?

I disabled it, and I have 16GB of RAM. I've never had any issues that have to do with lack of memory ever.

I used to be quite active here.

You only need it if you don't have enough RAM to run tasks, typically with low end machines. I've disabled it and have no problems.

This is incorrect. Page file is used when the computer works out of available RAM to work with so starts using main storage. It's unlikely you'll end up needing the page file, especially with 128GB.

Deal going on for 16gb G.SKILL dimms, was planning on doing 64GB anyway for virtual machines. Seemed like a good idea at the time...

If I had 128GB of RAM, I would make a RAM drive and put page file there (just in case some IT guy didn't get the memo about using only RAM when it's available ;)).

Paging isn't done at a program level. It is a process of the operating system. A program wont just not run because you don't have paging on.

Maybe, but memory management requires Page File to be there, to run efficiently (at least in Windows).

Quote

Having no paging file at all forces the operating system to use RAM inefficiently for two reasons. First, it can't make pages discardable, even if they haven't been either accessed or modified in a very long time, which forces the disk cache to be smaller. Second, it has to reserve physical RAM to back allocations that are very unlikely to ever require it (for example, a private, modifiable file mapping), leading to a case where you can have plenty of free physical RAM and yet allocations are refused to avoid overcommitting.

ive always had pagefile disabled since running more than 8GB and SSD drives. no ill-effects.

if using less than 8GB and mechanical drives, then it is necessary.

The better question is if there's any reason to disable it. Windows manages your page file intelligently. Your system is not going to pointlessly deprive itself of physical memory just because you've got a page file active, so it's unlikely you'd see any performance improvement by turning it off. You can move or set a manual size for the page file, you don't have to disable it to avoid filling up a disk.

I will say, though, that if you're contemplating turning off the page file it's because you expect your RAM will never be filled to capacity. If that's the case, why buy so much RAM? Generally you buy 128 GB of RAM if you're running applications that will actually make use of as much memory as you can give them, in which case turning off the page file might be a stability concern.
