AMD with Nvidia Cards?

Worth getting a AMD along with my GTX 970 after summer?

 

Been looking at some cross-card using for the DX12, yet I do not play mainstream games.

Mhm, others told me that a single 970 will atleast last for another year or two aswell.

Don't expect AAA titles to support this feature. Most developers are too lazy and will use old DX11 multi GPU techniques.

well, that depends on what you play. A single 970 will be more than enough for most games for at least 2 more years, but some games will require more.

Yeah! Pretty much, though, Nvidia Experience turns some games into.. 2K I think it is? Not sure, but it's still steady such as Starcraft 2 sometimes.

okay, this has to be done away with. 

 

Back in 2014 Nvidia released a retroactive update to geforce experience that makes it detect whether crimson or ccc is running, if it is then it disables support for cuda, physx, and nvidias other proprietary tech, as well as more often than not disablimg geforce experience all together. Running both amd, and nvidia at the same time, in the same system, is NOT a viable option. regardless of what dx12 "allows", nvidia simply wont allow it.

Its sad that we won't really see it in dx12 thanks to nvidia being anti-competitive, but hey at least you can buy a couple ssds, or a new pair of headphones, or other misc tech stuff

(screw living essentials, only buy tech stuff from now on!)

Most just saving up for winter time, where I will most likely get new Motherboard, CPU and RAM along with bigger SSD.

It is already bad in my eyes. On the AMD side their cards already beat it and 3.5+.5gb is not enought Vram for 2 more years with things like 4K and VR. I would say a 980ti would last 2 years before Volta destroys it

As a student I can't toss out 1000 euros sadly to manage by current setup sadly.

I know a 390 or 970 will be fine, you just might need to turn down some settings

Depends on if AMD use their monopoly on the consoles to force them to. Sony and Microsoft are teasing upgraded versions of their consoles, but it is perfectly possible for AMD, in a future console version, to offer Crossfire as an upgrade. Especially when VR and 4K are involved. And if going multi-GPU rather than crossfire unloads the responsibility onto devs rather than themselves, well you could just start to see multi-GPU considered a necessary feature across all platforms.

 

That'd have the added benefit of levelling the playing field between big, expensive, powerful GPUs with low yeilds compared with multi-GPU cards which is definitely something AMD would benefit from. Why bother developing a Fury X if two 380s is literally no different in every case?

Vram has nothing to do with it. Hawaii is a more powerful but ridiculously under-optimised GPU. It always has been. 4GB is going to stay enough for a while, unless all games become Assassins Creed Unity or Arkham Knight, in which case more vram is not going to make enough of a difference to make it playable.

IDK about that. If you look at card that can play at 4K they should have more then 4gbs as some 4K games use more then 4GB. Wow I said 4gb a lot in that sentence

DICE/EA titles are quite likely to use it, as DICE seems to enjoy using the best tech possible.

Cards that are perfectly fine for 4K include 980 SLI, 970 SLI, 290X crossfire, 290 Crossfire, Fury X (also crossfire).

 

What do those all have in common?

 

Games use more than 4GB when cards have more than 4GB because they just don't swap data out of ram as often as when you're using cards with 4GB. GDDR5 is fast enough (even on the 970) that you don't need to store more than 4GB on the card at any given moment.

Well, I got the information I needed. Can save up for new CPU, Motherboard and RAM instead for later on, as I then can use my current one for a secondary rig for sale or use myself.
