Budget CPU air cooler help...!

Go to solution Solved by IslandStone,

Alright so now I've ordered the Noctua ND-D15S at sale.. :D

EDIT: *Currently considering Noctua NH-D15S, as it goes for the same price as the NH-D15 here, and offers better performance in terms of not interfering with other components (other than the case since it's higher). Will use Define R5 case - I guess that's wide enough?.. Any reason not to choose this cooler?*

Hi! :)

Im building a new computer, and looking for an efficient, low temp, silent CPU air cooler with good value for price.

Price maximum 100 USD.

My Build:

Motherboard: - Asus Deluxe z170

CPU: - Intel 6700K

GPU: - EVGA geforce gtx 970 SSC

RAM: - Hyperx Fury 2133mhz 2x8 GB

PSU: - Corsair RM850x 850w (know it's a over-kill)

Case: - Probably: Fractal Design Define R5

What I've been looking at so far:

- CoolerMaster 212 EVO

- Be Quiet! Pure Rock

- Noctua NH-U12S

- Cryorig H7

Key features:

- Slim/Small (need room for ram upgradability and upper GPU).

- Silent/Quiet under all kind of usage.

- Good cooling of CPU.

- Good Value for price.

**Not going to OC a lot, if that is worth knowing.

Prices in my country:
- Noctua NH-D15 : 99 USD

- Noctua U12S: 79 USD

- Dark Rock 3: 79 USD

- Dark Rock Pro 3: 98 USD

- Pure Rock: 45 USD

- CM 212 evo: 42 USD

- Cryorig H7: 53 USD

- Shadow Rock Slim: 59 USD

Not sure what you are referring to as "a k".. Could you enlighten me? :D

Edit: *Of if it's the 6700k you mean.. It was on a sale and much cheaper even than the 6700, that's why :) *

I like the nh-D15, but i think it's kind of pricy and big.

Is it that you have this one (Or had) yourself? :)

Dark rock pro 3 or NH-D15

In my country they have the NH-D15 for 99 USD and the Dark Rock Pro 3 for 94 USD and the Dark Rock 3 for 79 USD. Would you say Dark Rock Pro 3 or NH-D15 wins over Dark Rock 3, when you think performance per dollar?

Do you have any experience with this one? :)

The NH-D15 is the best performer, by a couple degrees if we compare it with the Pro 3, the Rock 3 and the U12s. It is up to you if you want that extra performance, but you will have cooler for years, technically forever if the fans don't die ;)

What's the price of the Shadow Rock Slim? Dark Rock 3 is going to be a better value than the 100$ coolers obviously, since you won't be OCing much. But honestly, the Shadow Rock Slim is enough, so it would be much better value

not everyone is keen on pushing a cpu as hard as it can go, much easier to do a mild overclock too.

As far as the cooler I have a nh-d14 cooling a 6500k @4.4GHz and if I remember correctly temps peaked 72ºC in 30ºC ambient. hyper-threading also makes some extra heat so consider that too

I am thinking of getting the new Noctua NH-D15S, since it goes for the same price as ND-D15 here atm, and I like how it offers zero ram/GPU-slot interference.

Any reason not to go for this one? o.O
