Why my idle temps are so high?

Hey guys I have a i7 6700k & dark rock pro 3 cpu cooler.

Cpu is not overclocked.

15 minutes in AIDA 64:

Stayed around 70-73 degrees Celsius.

Between 38-42 degrees Celsius idle temps ...

Is this normal? bad? anything wrong?

My room temp is around 24 degrees Celsius.

Thanks.

Here is a print screen of the cpu stress test for 15 minutes in AIDA 64:

Stayed around 70-73 degrees Celsius.

Here is a print screen at Idle:

Between 40-42 degrees Celsius idle temps ...

Is this normal? bad? anything wrong?

My room temp is around 24 degrees Celsius.

Thanks.

I cant see the pictures but i can say its maybe not normal for a water cooler but if your ambeint temperature is high then its very normal with an air cooler. I run at 45 degress idle cus well i went overkill on the overclock xD

Hope this helps :P

40 avg seems quite high for a stock clocked 6700k with such a large cooler at idle. Have you tried reapplying the thermal paste?

Needs money for car parts :P

What's the airflow like in your case? Not unsafe or anything, just slightly on the high side.

When i first started my computer the idle temps were around 29 degrees celsius!

Then I played a couple games then checked after 45minutes of stopping the game the idle temps are now 38-42, 24/7.

it's an okay temp for idle,

load temps are what matter - refer to article linked above

the fan on that cooler spins really slow at idle to keep it quiet

good for him

idle temps don't matter

what case? are you stress testing the gpu also? hows the air flow like in the case?

the delta between load and idle is a bit too much

as for idle temps, you're doing fine

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

because of low RPM fans

My 5820K is running at 38*C right now, the fans are at 750RPM

Bitfenix prodigy mini-itx.

It is running a Gtx 780 Ti Classified card inside.

The HDD cages have been flipped around so it can hold a long gpu + house 6 hdd's at the same time although only 3 hdd's are in it at the moment.

Temp for cpu hit 60 degrees Celsius when I was gaming & the Gtx 780 Ti Classified was around 80 degrees Celsius.

Even when I put the fans on the cpu cooler high, it makes a difference of only a couple degrees.

Maybe clean out the dust in the CPU Cooler?

Brand new everything.

I also have a corsair H80i V2 cpu cooler I could use but I was aiming for a very quiet build for simple multi-tasking with microsoft word/surfing the web & gaming maybe once or twice a week.

I have the same temps for an AMD FX 8320 and I don't think this is bad... I never tested my cpu temps but I think the load temps are also not too bad. The cooler may want t rather be quiet and not cooler so try changing the fan speeds.

changing fan speeds is onlu changing the temps lower by a couple degrees.

A few degrees are better than nothing and you really don't need lower temps to survive. Some cpu's can survive really high temps but it depends like Linus said once. Just google a little bit and check what the temps should be, but dont worry to much.

There's a great article linked somewhere on this forums... I am not really sure, maybe it's on the first reply to this topic?

Hows your room temp? And usually PC is only showing real idle temps right after boot. If you look at CPU load and its under 2-3 %, you can talk about idle temps. Rest is light load which yours seems to be. Another's thing is that while cores cool quickly after load ends, heatpipes and heatsinks will be hotter than what they were before load. As in air circulating in your small case will be much hotter than what comes in from intakes.
