Is the 2500K still good?

I'm looking at buying a PC with one, and I want to know if it's still modern, especially with a water cooler.

Not sure about the water cooler, but 4 years later and mine is still running strong.

i would not say that it is extremely modern, but it is still a very good performing chip, especially for the price. water cooling may not really be the way you wanna go with it.

I wouldn't pay top dollar, especially since you're limited to PCI-E 2.0, 2 SATA3 ports, etc.  But if you can drive a good bargain, go for it. 

 

Lots of the boards of the time had buggy PCI bridges, so if you need to run PCI cards, you probably should look at something more modern.  But other than that, I can't think of a reason why you wouldn't want that hardware, at a good price.

It comes with a watercooler. I'm not looking at the price with this thread, just the performance.

Still usable it is as good as the i3-6100 but the i5 can be over-clocked!

It's actually a fair bit better than the 6100.  A lot of people on this forum seem to do it.  I'll admit it's not the most amazing consumer processor on the market but it's actually as good or better than any modern i3.  You guys on this forum seem to sell that mean little CPU short.  Though obviously PRICE is a major factor.

Mine was alright. Did 4.6 on 1.3v without any hassle. Wasn't a particularly fantastic 2500K but it isn't much slower than most haswell based ones, still plenty for playing games.

Also the i5 can be over-clocked easily!
