My friends has an AMD FX-4300 Quad core CPU. He wants to upgrade his CPU so that it has a higher clock frequency for games such as ARMA 3. It is currently at 3.8GHz and he cannot overclock so he gets low FPS in game. He has about £180 to spend on a new CPU and I have said that an FX-9370 would be the CPU for him. I know he needs a different cooler and I think the Arctic Freezer A32 will be in the price point to get the CPU stated earlier and the cooler too.

If you have any other ideas as to what CPU or cooler (Possibly) he should get then please let me know.

Kind regards, Brennan Price.

LOL? He has £180 to spend plus he can sell his current CPU and mobo for cheap. Why spend on a FX series CPU when it has been proven time and time again that it has a bad price to performance ratio. But I would recommend @DEcobra11 's Intel suggestion below instead because its better for the price.

Please... FX 9xxx series are just OCed FX-8320 with no binning involved, grab a FX 8320/8350/8370(e) (whatever is cheaper) and OC it if FX is your only route. I wouldn't expect a lot of gain in ARMA 3 though, it's a single threaded CPU eater and I wouldn't recomment just a CPU upgrade if he ONLY plays arma.

For games like Arma:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i5-6400 2.7GHz Quad-Core Processor  (£154.98 @ Ebuyer)
Motherboard: Asus H110M-D D3 Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard  (£47.60 @ Amazon UK)
Total: £202.58

MB supports DDR3 BTW, so no problem there

BTW, He is not Tech savvy enough to install a new OS if he does get a new Mobo so his CPU will have to be AMD FX

Have somebody else do it? Look at YouTube guides? Tell your friend he will be spending more for less performance gain.

Yet the 390 is better. c: AMD = GPUs only so far, don't consider their CPUs unless you need a Pentium K replacement.

If the FX series had a good price to performance ratio then I would recommend it but THAT IS NOT THE CASE TODAY. So I stand by my opinion to sell the AMD CPU and mobo to add to  £ 180 budget to get @DEcobra11's Intel suggestion for better price to performance but if still no then by all means get the years old AMD FX "upgrade" instead. LOL

You don't need to reinstall an OS to upgrade CPU and mobo. Just google search chipset drivers for the H110 chipset then download and install that.

WHAT? LOOOOOL I've changed numerous platforms for friends from AMD to Intel and not one needed an OS reinstall. You just need to install chipset drivers and you're done LOL.
