i5 6500 vs fx 6300

What will bottleneck a 900 series card more a fx 6300 or a i5 6500 it's an argument between me and a friend and I'm telling him an i5 6500 will not bottleneck a 900 series but he says it will I think  he doesn't understand the concept of IPC. He says u need an i7 to run a 900 series card without a bottleneck.

technically he is right, he didnt state what generation of i7

first gen i5 are pretty much gonna bottleneck a 970 or 980, while an i7 will probably bottleneck it less `-`

back to topic

the i5 6500 will wipe the floor with the fx6300

single or multi-threaded

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

He didn't state what gen I think he

meant any generation

He runs a i7 2600k at stock with a 780

An i3 6100 is better than a 6300 for games, so an i5 6500 will shit all over it.

It depends what youd call a cpu bottleneck though, since that depends alot on the game, framerate , resolution etc.

If you run 2 titan x and play in 1080p sure a extreme i7 5960x @5ghz will get more fps than a stock skylake i5 in most games.

An i5 will pretty much puh every game to 60fps though given enough gpu power.
