Good 4K IPS monitor?

Hello.

Can anyone recommend me a decent 4K IPS monitor that is atleast 5ms response time or lower?

27 inch or higher is preferred. For productivity and casual gaming.

Budget: Around $1000 AUD ($750-800 USD), but I can go higher.

Thanks.

I don't read the reply to my posts anymore so don't bother.

The LG 27MU67 is hard to beat for the price with an IPS panel.

For some reason there are many other 27" 4K Freesync options at this price range but they are all TN.

OP is in Australia

No its alright, I probably could find one here and I also accept Amazon.

But yes the LG 27MU67 look very attractive right now.

Unfortunately that has 6ms GtG response time (I've been spoiled by 2ms, I already don't like the ghosting of 5ms)

I wouldn't pay any attention to quoted response times. I have two 2ms, a 5ms and a 8ms display infront of me and one of the 2ms ones has the worst ghosting. LG IPS displays are generally quite good as far as ghosting goes and Dell usually quotes their response times higher than other manufacturers even when they use identical displays, there's just no standardised way of measuring response times.

Oops I meant to thumbs you up. But thanks for the info, that's perfect.

Anyone else with a suggestion?

EDIT: Fixed the rep

I was also looking at the 27MU67 however its successor has been released the 27UD68 .  The LG rep on overclockers forum described it as "a 27MU67 with some upgrades."  The main difference seems to be the really nice bezel-less design and HDMI v2 (i.e 4k @60hz over HDMI).

It comes as both -W and -P models.  The -W model has a silver stand which looks nice but is reported by some as a bit wobbly, it also has no height adjustment.  The -P model has a black stand and has full height, tilt, swivel adjustment.

http://www.lg.com/us/monitors/lg-27UD68-W-4k-uhd-led-monitor

http://www.lg.com/uk/monitors/lg-27UD68P

There is a weird thing that you will find its brightness listed as 300cd/m2 in some countries and 350cd/m2 in others.  I still haven't figured out which is correct but unless you need over 300cd/m2 it doesn't really matter.

Although I just checked and it doesn't seem to have made it to Australia yet.  It launched in the USA in March, its launching here in the UK end of April.  Not sure about Aus.

I have ordered both a dell P2715Q (also reportedly a great monitor) and an LG 27UD68-P and will be testing them back to back this week.

ps

It does have a more expensive sister monitor the 27UD88 but as far as I can tell its the same panel, you just pay $200 more for a USB C connector.  It also seems even harder to get hold of.

Actually I was looking at this earlier and yes there are plenty of these in Australian PC shops. One store has more than ten of these in stock. https://www.umart.com.au/umart1/pro/Products-details.phtml?id=10&bid=2&id2=143&sid=273405

Other shops advertised that it has 350cd/m2 while others only 300, I really don't know what to trust but I don't need a bright display anyway.

I don't read the reply to my posts anymore so don't bother.

Yes you're right as stated here: http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/articles/content/panel_technologies_content.htm

Though are there major difference between different IPS types? Common ones include AH-IPS, PLS and now AHVA.

I don tthink there is much difference, possibly panels from different manufacturers calling htem something else.. I didnt get that far into it...

I've been looking at monitors for a couple months and I noticed several reviews on youtube of the Crossover 324k and 404k final and have read several forums of posts of numerous people being very well satified with their purchase of these monitors...

I ordered a new model, Crossover 32s thats 2560x1440, I had my choice down to two monitors, the 32s that I ordered, and the 324k which is the 4k, I decided on the 2560x1440 because I didnt want to put that much load on my gpu and I didnt care to take the fps hit with the 4k...  You have to realize a 4k monitor is over 8million pixels, compared to 2.7million at 2560x1080 and over 4million more pixels compared to a 2560x1440..

also, if you havent seen a 4k monitor in person, I highly suggest you go somewhere and look at one compared to a 1440 monitor.. I would like a 4k monitor for the future, but the 28" 4k monitor I looked at, which was a Samsung, I didnt particularly care for it, the icons were minute and the text was even worse.  I'm sure you could scale the text and icons but that also effects the quality greatly and can actually make the icons and text look far worse than on your current monitor..

To add: it wouldnt surprise me if A big name brand monitor was being assembled in the same plant right beside these monitors..

Yes I know that. I am buying a 4K monitor so that aliasing is less noticeable while not blurring the image like FXAA or high amount of MSAA (4x or 8x) which soften the image and I don't mind the FPS hit since when I create my games in Unity I try to be as optimised as possible. I also create textures at 2K or 4K so I want my textures to look crisp.

Basically, I want less aliasing (by having high PPI) and sharper textures (even at 27", you can still see higher details by having more pixels cramped)

Even on a compressed YouTube video at 1080p 27" I can clearly see the difference. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BZGN0jAXTOk

I also want to sometimes scale down to 1080p if I cannot run certain programs so that is why I am considering 4K over 1440p.

Its not as good as native 1080p but it is a perfect scaling.

honestly, if you have the room, I think you need to be looking at the larger monitors, 40" and larger.

When I decide to go to a 4k monitor I'm going 40" or larger...  I'm not particular to any monitor manufacturer, I actually think monitors are completely overpriced...  I'll look at Crossover and Wasabi Mango when I'm considering a 4k monitor..

I wanted the higher PPI as noted earlier. https://www.noteloop.com/kit/display/pixel-density/

But anyway I will buy a monitor towards the end of the year so there will be new products between now and then.

I just wanted to see a list of decent monitors to choose from and now I have some options thanks to you guys.
