I recently bought a custom computer from Maingear computers.

Long story short, it came with 16GB HyperXŪ FURYT DDR4- 2666, and separately I bought CORSAIR Vengeance LPX 32GB DDR4 SDRAM 2400 (I bought the memory before buying the computer from Maingear, I had already bought another computer from another company and had a problem with the order so it was cancelled)

According to my research these two packs should work fine together for a total of 48GB of RAM, just that the Hyper Fury would work at 2400Mhz instead of 2666Mhz. But, for some reason it's not working. At first I get a black screen with message "memory changed, please go to settings for setup" and when going to BIOs, the motherboard seems to recognize all the memory slots, and effectively shows the Hyper Fury's running at 2400mhz, I don't really see anything related to setting up memory.

But after that, I just get the blue screen. What am I missing here?

Here are my specs:

MSI X99A Raider

Intel Core I7 5820k 3.3Ghz/3.6Ghz Turbo boost

GTX 980

Motion Designer and 3D Generalist

My system specs: Ryzen 1700 - G. Skill Flare X 32GB - 2x EVGA 1070 SC - Windows 10 Home

Trying to work two separate kits of memory at two different speeds is not recommended, and can lead to the aforementioned blue screens. Choose one or the other. Not both. SOMETIMES, two kits of IDENTICAL memory will work together, but not two totally different kits. Sorry for the bad news.

Now, that isn't to say that you should just chuck out the lower capacity memory. Keep it, in case something goes wrong with your upgrade.

Thanks for your reply. This is weird, since I researched this, and even though is not recommended most of the people said it should work, and I even asked the guys at Maingear. I guess I am in that small percetange of bad luck

this is typically a nono. use the corsair ram, and do something else with the hyperx stuff.

The thing is, even if you set the higher speed RAM to run at 2400MHz across the board, the fact that the two different kits are different is bad news. Besides, RAM typically likes to run in 1GB, 2, 4, 6, 16, 32, 64 or 128 GB capacities. 48 is a weird number for RAM (that's not to say it won't work if the original FULL kit is 48GB. Lenovo does weird stuff like sticking in 6GB RAM sticks?!?!)

Gotcha, yeah I figured that the 48GB was probably going to be an issue since its a weird number, but I was hoping to make it work. Oh well, no big deal, I guess I'll store the 16gb somewhere unfortunately.

its not guaranteed to work, especially with different brands that have completely different specs

the issue is not that its 48GB

Gonna try not to get into a thread war here... Its just that 48 GB is a bit of an obscure number, and most motherboards don't really support triple channel memory anymore. The original problem was because it's RAM speeds and specs and stuff.

so, the final answer is that there is no set up I can do, or change some settings to be able to use all the sticks?

It has nothing to do with motherboards supporting triple channel. Using different capacities is known as Flex Channel mode, and all modern Intel CPU's/Chipsets support it.

There is a way. It's called manually inputting each and every timing, voltage value, etc. I can walk you through this process, but it will take a little time. Let me know if you are willing to invest the time into doing this.
