Opinions on Console Killer

Hello everyone, I'm trying to come up with a build to replace my son's xbox 360 since it's about time it gets replaced, so I thought about setting a PC with Steam's Big Picture start automatically, he's only 6yo so I want to make it easy for him. So this build would be used with a controller and go straight into Big Picture for him. Now, I have a tough time deciding between two options. Most builds I've seen use AMD processor since it's more affordable but I've seen recent post that say to better go for the i3-6100 Skylake. So my question is, which of this builds do you think I should go for? Is there anything you would change? Thank you for your thoughts in advance!

If you know how to overclock this g3258 build will destroy, and with the money saved you can step up to a GTX 960 which will kick a r7 360's ASS

Skylake i3+ GTX 950 sounds like a better plan.

Don't spend that much on motherboard and cooling.

Is the GTX 950 better than the r7 360? Also, how is the i3 better than the 860k?

if this was made a year or two ago i would agree, but nowadays more games need 4 core to evne have the game boot. so a 4 core AMD is better if he wants to play games like far cry and games that will come out in the future months/years.

This is exactly what I was thinking about. I don't remember where but I saw some "vs" reviews that gave better performance to the 860k but in the end the 6100 won and I don't know how.

you can OC some CPU's and they will be better. but it still won't make then run games the require 4 cores.

With the release of pascal, shouldn't the older GPU's go down in price?

An i3 is recognized by games as a quad core- I would know I ran Far Cry 4 on an i3-4150.

But you're talking about almost double the price, for that price I could go for an FX-8320E and only pay $20 more. How would the i3 compare to that?

The 8320E has a terrible performance per core and a Skylake i3 will actually perform much better all while drawing less power and putting out less heat.

True for pretty much all of the FX line, they're really dated at this point.

Ah, okay, thanks for the info, I'm just scared the i3 might not be able to handle the gaming with it's 2 cores. He likes playing CoD Ghosts like any kid. That's his favorite game.

The i3 is recognized as a quad core in games- trust me I've used to an i3 in my old rig before I upgrade to the i5 I have now.

even if you say its recognizes does not mean it will perform the same. they can easily make the game say its a 4 core to trick it but when it comes down to it, it only has 2 physical cores.
